If you use BOINC, you will do work on each core, and get a lot more done. See the instructions here: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm

You use BOINC already?
Have you gone to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default and set it to "Maximum output"? |

Hello byspeed,
I use now, and the CPU load get to 50% but i want 100% on idle, if i do nothing :) The World Community Grid runs at low priority, using any cycles that are not needed by higher priority tasks. But measuring this is tricky. If you run the UD client, it is throttled to run at 60% by default in order to reduce CPU heating, since this is a worry for laptop users. You can set the usage to 100% (or some other value) by using the throttle tool ( http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe ) as explained in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655 The BOINC client can be throttled in the profile. But both clients will show just 50% usage in Task Manager if they are running a single thread on a hyperthreading Pentium IV. The reason is that Task Manager does not really understand the difference between hyperthreading and a dual-core CPU, so it incorrectly assumes that 1 thread is using at most 50% of a Pentium IV. The big difference between the UD client ad the BOINC client is that the UD client will run only one work unit at a time, no matter how many cores are available. The BOINC client will run as many different threads simultaneously as there are cores (if you allow it to in the profile). So you have some decisions to make if using BOINC. You have to decide how many threads you have enough memory to handle if you have more than 1 core or cpu in your computer. Lawrence |

You can raise the processing priority of WCG by bringing up Task Manager, right click on the application, "Set Priority", "Normal". I use this setting and noticed WCG results almost doubled with no noticable affect to my system. If I do some heavy number crunching, I just lower the priority back to "Low". Give it a shot.
I wouldn't go higher than Normal on a shared system as it does have a noticable affect. On the systems you use only for WCG, I'd set them higher and see what happens. Peace - Out. |
