Robby,
----------------------------------------I've setup a couple Linux boxes. I'm far from an expert, but let me know if you need help with Apache. If all it's going to do is crunch and serve our little friend Christian (guess this is my vote) then you could use Fedora Core too. Fedora or Ubuntu should run up to 16 cores. Good luck with the build. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 11, 2007 2:08:59 PM] |

Don't know much about Vista as I'm avoiding it like the plague at the moment, but I believe that may be OK? Linux distros would be the cheapest way to go. |

Hi Adywebb
----------------------------------------Checking back on that link. Bill might want to clarify. "Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor" Home is a non-starter though. My Buddy has Vista it's all very pretty but I don't think we are missing out on anything just yet. Still finding out about OS X Tiger. It's so good it's boring. Everything you could need built in already and it just works - now where's the fun in that ![]() edit I've double checked and the Quad Core Dual Proc XP Pro machine's a runner. But think how much more fun it would be with Ubuntu and you could have 1024 cores onboard ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at May 11, 2007 7:25:31 PM] |

Funily enough I've just been given a copy of OS X 10.4.8 (which works on non-macs) which should do the job, might give that a go and see when the time comes, or use Ubuntu ![]() |

Hi Ady
----------------------------------------As sure as I can be relying on info from the Internet There seem to be enough benchmarks out there. Try this one for size http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/0,1000000193,39284700,00.htm XP is really just Windows 2000 with a pretty face and support for Wifi ![]() I'm now down to the CPU Nerd related overall position of 286 Ee I remember when..... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at May 11, 2007 11:01:52 PM] |
