A Grid refugee installation problem

I've already uninstalled an reinstalled UD on one of my comupters, and it's happily crunching away. My problem is that I can't install (or uninstall) anything on my more productive computers. Is there any way to change settings and get whatever other changes are needed as an update?

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

I guess what I need is a way to fool the already installed version (left over from grid.org) into talking with and crunching numbers for this group.

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

I don't think that is possible.

Can we help you solve this some other way? Why do you not want to do it manually? How was UD deployed originally?

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

Hi Tall K,
The UD client is specialized to run with either grid.org or WCG. You will need to uninstall the old grid.org client before installing the WCG UD client. Or consider installing BOINC on one machine as a test.

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

Please, tell us why. If you have a way to roll out files to the machines, then we can create a workaround for you.

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

Simply put, my rights on these 2 machines do not include installing or uninstalling software. The IT folks have gotten very strict about that. On the other hand, updates have slipped through. So, if there's a way I can change some settings so that it goes to your site, and then updates whatever is different there, that may work.

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

No, it will only accept updates from the grid.org servers.

However, you can (with a little effort) run BOINC as a normal user. Basically, copy the files across from a normal installation, and it should run just fine.

We'll see whether IT allows him to open port 443 for the uploads. Hmmm.

I see some doubt here.
