No Graphics

Hey.
I have WCG installed on my home & work computers. They are both set to run as a screen saver, and all the options (not many) are set exactly the same. They are even both running the MS study. My work one shows the graphics when it's running, but my home one just shows the WCG logo. It's still processing the study, but no graphics.
Any ideas what I can do to get the graphics to show up? I am a protein geek, and I would love for the graphics to display while it's processing.

It's possible your home computer has not enough graphic power.... need 800x600 minimum. I'm not sure how the UD agent installs, but i had to copy the HCMD "ud_1582754.scr" file from the C:\Program Files\World Community Grid\ directory to the Windows directory. After that, had to open the Windows Display Control Panel (right click on desktop), screensaver and pick World Community Grid. If you do that, a little window should show the WCG logo bouncing. If you hit preview and not move the mouse, after 5-10 you should see the graphics.

Let us know if that works.

cheers

PS, there is a little confusion but we run Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, not Multiple Sclerosis. Both effect though the motoric system very badly.

Re: No Graphics

I have 128MB Raedon card, 1.5GB RAM & a P4 2.8 GHz, so I know I have the power. My computer at work is MUCH weaker and it is able to run the graphics.
I moved the ud_1582754.scr to the Windows directory. There was a UD.scr file there already. I was able to select the ud_1582754.scr from the screensaver menu, but I still didn't get any graphics, just the bouncing MCG logo.
I am running UD, not BONIC.
Thanks for correcting me on the Muscular Dystrophy. I should know what disease I am trying to help...

confused Re: No Graphics

Ordinarily, the WCG logo only bounces around when the science application is not running. The science application generates the information used to display graphics on the screensaver. Bring up the UD view (click on systray) and look at the Application View. Does it show graphics? Is the progress bar incrementing? If so, something is preventing the screen saver from getting the information. Do you have an anti-virus program that might be suspiciously blocking inter-process communications?

Added: Uhh. . . For testing, change it to run always, not just in screensaver mode.

For production, change screensaver to (none). The cycles going to the screensaver now go to the science, especially for those of us running 24/7. You can always display the graphics if you are there to look at it.

Re: No Graphics

I took the easy way out. I tried reinstalling it, but the problem still persisted. The task is running and there are graphics in the application window, just nothing during the screensaver.
Instead I installed BOINC and I can see the graphics. I was actually glad to see that BOINC can run a bunch of different research tasks at once, and I can switch between the graphics. I had no idea that was the difference between that and WCG.
Thanks for everyones help!

Re: No Graphics

Well, yes. Most of those items in the colored boxes at the bottom of my SIG are different BOINC projects, since I try them all.

Re: No Graphics

Delved deep but could not find a relation between 'No graphics' and MS. The next phase of Help Cure MD is now expected sometime June 2008 or later.

Cheers
