Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

However, you can (with a little effort) run BOINC as a normal user. Basically, copy the files across from a normal installation, and it should run just fine.

This might work. I've got one machine crunching away. It'll take a couple days to finish the unit, and then we'll see if it successfully trades it in for a new one, but so far so good.

Thanks, guys!

biggrin Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

Well, I've successfully sent my data off and got new work units, so it looks like this works. I'm up and crunching at full capacity. biggrin biggrin biggrin

Now I've just got a couple of "housekeeping" questions. Because of the way I brought it over, I didn't register either machine. Will the system think they are all the same? Does it matter? If I try to register them after the fact, will it mess something up? Also, in order to bring it across, I had installed BOINC on the original machine, and turned it off so it didn't fight with UD. But as long as I have both, I could use either. Is one prefered, or does one give results in a more easily useful manner?

Thanks again! biggrin

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

BOINC's clever about that - it detects duplicated installations and makes them unique.

Use BOINC - it's better all round. But that's just opinion - you do what you like.

Hello Tall K,
My understanding is that if the UD client shows the same ID on more than one computer, it will confuse the server. In that case, you are better off using BOINC.

OK. I'll let it finish this work unit and then switch over.

Re: A Grid refugee installation problem

Simply put, my rights on these 2 machines do not include installing or uninstalling software. The IT folks have gotten very strict about that. On the other hand, updates have slipped through. So, if there's a way I can change some settings so that it goes to your site, and then updates whatever is different there, that may work.

there is a way!

somehow try to install the UDmonitor, here is the link: http://udmon.sourceforge.net/ ...if you can, you have the link in the main directory of the program, some batch file for transfer to WCG...you do that & continue to calculate! biggrin

p.s. don't use betas, use only 4.45 version of UDmonitor!
