Its real brass monkey weather here today * Getting out the thicker pullies * as in cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass Monkey Great stuff Harold trust you to find the definitive Brass monkey (n. phr.) A brass trolley, formerly used in the Royal Navy to carry powder and balls into low ceilinged gun emplacements. And when it was cold, the brass used to contract and the cannon balls fell off smart @rse ![]() |

Oh those days when we could just throw a few more logs on the fire. |

Done Den. I don't think many of us can think so far back. My ealiest memories include coal fires in a grate, with fire dogs, a slipper box, a swinging hob for the kettle, a hearth rug and a hearth surrounded by a fire guard and a fender.Oh those days when we could just throw a few more logs on the fire. Somewhere among that lot was a coal scuttle which had to be taken down to the coal cellar for refilling. The coal cellar was under the front path and was fed, a ton at a time, via a coal chute from a coal hole in the pavement by the gate. |

Done Den. Oh those days when we could just throw a few more logs on the fire. Elf and safety has probably banned matches these days. I had a very good holiday in Spain. Way too much food though! It did rain a fair bit, but the water was at least warm. Other days I thought I risked sunburn though ![]() |

Good morning everyone.
