Re: Month 5 Report: Moving the Team Challenge bar UP a notch!

I say we make Zim and MM reregister on at least 3 accounts and have them share evenly between those accounts, so I can have my 3rd place back in the team! wink

Lets make it 4, so I have a chance....

Re: Month 5 Report: Moving the Team Challenge bar UP a notch!

My machines don't spew results as fast as some, but since they are left on 24/7, the time does add up.
In the next year or so we;ll be upgrading at least some of the machines, so the newer CPUs will work a little faster. And being dual core will double up on production.
From what I can see, the new core duo (1.83Ghz) is processing units 30% faster than the dual core P925 (2.8Ghz).
It is averaging about 5 hours per unit where the P4 1.7s take 14 hours on average.

Re: Month 5 Report: Moving the Team Challenge bar UP a notch!

Pulled off a Celeron yesterday and replaced it with a Dual Core P4 2.8 GHz with 1 GB of RAM.

My cable line got cut at home on Monday so no results from there until that is fixed. Currently only one machine at home running, but have 5 more waiting in the wings if they work. I know at least 3 of them do and the other 2 might just need minor repairs. They aren't the fastest things around but they can crunch. Until I see the first electric bill with all the computers running. laughing biggrin

MM:
I guess if you want ot have an affordable electricity bill, you should change all those older ones to amd X2 or core2, coz as I see it, these modern CPUs do way more work for the money spent on elctricity than the old ones. Sell the old ones and buy new or partly used ones instead, at the end of the year you gonna be far better off on your money...
Just check on boincstats , how much better the multicores score.

Re: Month 5 Report: Moving the Team Challenge bar UP a notch!

I know how much better the multi cores work in comparison to the single cores especially celerons. But currently I have just spent soooo much on repairing my house, that I can't afford any new computer components. I'm hoping that I can use pieces and parts from 3 of them to make one, while the other two work just fine.

I haven't really seen a electric bill yet since I moved back in, so I'm just hoping that it isn't that bad and I will be able to put another one or two systems online.

I have BOINC set top run as a service in Vista (on a supposed 'admin tights' username) and the crunching shows in Task Manager, but the front end is blocked on startup by Vista stupidity.
The designeers of Vista should get out of the business IMHO!

Re: Month 5 Report: Moving the Team Challenge bar UP a notch!

Well, you want to run an app screwing around with one of the services, that an admin set to run. Its understandable paranoia I guess. It's stated on the boinc download page too, that they will solve it in the FUTURE!

I'm glad you succeeded though!

How soon do you recognize the presence of a new CPU in your daily stats? confused
