Filipe is installing on Linux as a Service. This in essence does the same as what Didactylos said equal to a service install on Windows.
----------------------------------------A service install starts before anybody logs in and does not generate an icon in any systray if you sign in to open a user session, *provided* you have not added BOINCmgr also the to auto-start folder. If BOINC is started via BOINCmgr you will get the icon. Simply starting BOINC.exe when logged in generates a DOS like window just listing the BOINC activity. That window you cannot close as it will exit BOINC core client (aka Daemon). From 6.0 service install will be the only way. Separately you can start BOINCmgr. In fact you can start as many BOINCmgrs in a user session as u like and connect each to a client running on other machines (remote control). You can close all BOINCmgrs again without exiting the core client. verbose again.

sorry, I missed that the OS is Linux. I agree that a service is the best approach.
