What is ud_11516429.exe

Recently my firewall caught the exe file ud_11516429.exe trying to
launch a exe file wcgrid_fcg_ssearch.exe.

This firewall is of the paranoid kind and even labeled the launch
"application hijack". And cut of all internet access for the ud_client.

What are the client trying to do? It wasn't sending and recieving any work
since it was in the middle of a workunit.

Re: What is ud_11516429.exe

That is the connection - known as Core Client or Daemon in BOINC language - between UD.exe and the Science program wcgrid_fcg_ssearch.exe.... sort of the real manager 1 level below the UD Agent GUI. I've set an exception in my firewall for this one and the different numbered once for the other 4 projects running under UD Agent.

The number may change when the version is upgraded, so it's a little housekeeping for safety sake.

UD uses port 80 and 443 to interact with the servers for sending and receiving work. The specific URL's the Agent and website use are:

www.worldcommunitygrid.org
secure.worldcommunitygrid.org
server.worldcommunitygrid.org

here a post with more insight from Alther, an application developer of WCG: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10966#82660

cheers

Re: What is ud_11516429.exe

Thanks for the explanation Sekerob!

I was afraid some virus had infected UD and was trying to exploit it.
