Re: Vista support

I have Vista Home Premium and although the client downloads new work projects, it doesn't seem to be able to process them and 'backs up'.

Any ideas how I can get around this problem?

Thanks!

Hello! I am getting the same message and I am running the UD agent on Windows Vista Home Premium. What do I need to do to solve this problem? Thanks!

Hello! I have opened ports 80 and 443 to let my grid agent work, but I still get the message that it is "backing up". How do I get it to work? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Vista support

Here's a post by IngLele on installing the UD Agent http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=7422#59764

I don't know how and in what u opened up the ports, but hope it was specifically to talk to the 3 web addresses (2 IP addresses) WCG has which currently are.

server.worldcommunitygrid.org: 129.33.89.133
secure.worldcommunitygrid.org: 129.33.89.133
www.worldcommunitygrid.org: 129.33.89.134

There have collected already a substantial number of posts on the WCG forum regarding this new windows. If your machine is 'Vista Capable', i speculate u have multiple core CPU in your machine. U can more than double the work if you Migrate to BOINC , which many are already running successfully.

A relative hi number of backing-off reports are related to security software, so please visit the Start Here forum where one article discusses these: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1804

Finally a post by Viktors: One Possible reason for "Unable to proce...king off..." message It does not have a specific Vista pointer yet, but there might be something there to try. He send the following note requesting info:
it could also be some sort of Windows firewall config problem or even DEP settings. I don't yet have a final version of Vista to test on, but should fairly soon. If you get the person's device ID number, I can see if there is anything unusual on the server side that might narrow the possible causes. Also, it might be useful to get specifics about their installation: how they installed it, firewall products, antivirus and other such products... etc. to see if anything stands out. Thanks.

cheers.

Sekerob,

Hi! I didn't open it to talk to those 3 addresses. When I searched the help section on World Community Grid, the help note just said to open ports 80 and 443 outbound, which I did though Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007. I think I will migrate to BOINC to solve the problem. Thank you!
