Is UD better than BOINC?

Hello Everyone,

I'm a little new to the forums, but I have been running UD and BOINC for some time now. I used to use BOINC with the SETI@HOME project, but have since switched to running all the World Community Grid projects using UD.

I have a AMD 64 3700+ computer, and I have been wondering which would be better for me to use? UD or BOINC?

thanks! biggrin

Generally speaking, BOINC has the edge.

Re: Is UD better than BOINC?

Hi Nickoli smile

I use both of them on different machines, I've never had a problem. Just that BOINC doesn't seem to do 'proteome folding' yet.

Enjoy.

Re: Is UD better than BOINC?

Hi Nickoli

Boinc does not use CPU to show you beautifull graphs like does UD agent.
But all project on WCG does not run on Boinc and HCMD for exemple will only run with UD agent until August 2007.
But both UD agent and Boinc are safe and no problem with them.

Re: Is UD better than BOINC?

Select a work unit in progress in BOINC's tasks window, click on the show grraphics button and they will pop up almost equal to the UD Agent. Some features are not there, because the BOINC interface already provides that information. Here an example of the FightAIDS"Home project on BOINC

As was explained in other places, HCMD was not launched on BOINC as the volume of work, the equivalent of 2 weeks work if run alone on WCG, did not justify the programming and debugging effort for BOINC. Between phase 1 and 2 there is an expected gap of a number of months for analysis and tuning by the scientists. Phase 2 is expected to run for a longer time.

Re: Is UD better than BOINC?

I've always been happy with UD, so I guess I will stick with them for now.

Thanks for all the input so far everyone biggrin
