Hello,
I haven't seen anything recently on support for vista. Any news on this? I plan to purchase a new computer soon and was wondering. Thanks. |

Been running it on 10 PCs with Vista Business or Ultimate for over a month now - no problems.

I have Vista Home Premium and although the client downloads new work projects, it doesn't seem to be able to process them and 'backs up'.
Any ideas how I can get around this problem? Thanks! |

Hi everybody !
One member in my team have à little problem with the Agent UD. He's on vista Home Premium. The processeur is a Pentium M 1.73 Ghz. The agent UD recognize this processeur like a 0.8 Ghz. For more informations, see under : Thanks for him. (link of the first discussion, in french) |

Hello Super_baloo8,
The agent UD recognize this processeur like a 0.8 Ghz. He needs to download http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe and set the throttle to 100%. He is running at the default 60% speed. The throttle is explained at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655 Lawrence |

Was totally unaware that the Throttle Tool would make the CPU reading change.... always thought it was hidden in the science part, whereas the benchmarking is done purely from the UD.exe agent (?)
----------------------------------------Question here is: Did he run UD under a previous version of windows and have the same issue? Reading the French thread ".... Vu que c'est un pentium M, je suppose que le 800MHz correspond à la basse fréquence. Vive le Speedstep et Vista......", is it a laptop..... that does reduce the actual CPU hertz. Laptop CPU's in particular if getting too hot will slow down. The Throttle of WCG only takes part of the available cycles, thus some experimentation needs to take place what the best % is to keep the CPU at 1.73ghz. There's mention in that thread of running on battery, but dont think one is able to force UD agent to run on battery at all (?). I dont think the member advanced to that stage. Much questions or UD does misidentify the CPU. BOINC on the other hand has been under continuous development and with Vista in mind of recent, so you/he might want to try that. BOINC can be forced to run on battery, but that does not stop the CPU from slowing down unless forced to remain at maximum performance.

Well, Sekerob. You are right and I am wrong. The throttle should not affect the benchmark, so something is going on that I do not understand. Perhaps overheating has activated a temperature mandated slowdown?

First, thanks all for your answer.
----------------------------------------Question here is: Did he run UD under a previous version of windows and have the same issue? Yes, he was on Windows Xp before, and there were no problems. (UD recognized it's processor with 1.73ghz). that does reduce the actual CPU hertz. Laptop CPU's in particular if getting too hot will slow down. It's computer it's not hot, he doesnt measure the temperature, but he told me that it's computer was near cold ;) (i think about 50°C) There's mention in that thread of running on battery, but dont think one is able to force UD agent to run on battery at all (?). I dont think the member advanced to that stage. On the picture given upper, you can read in french, that it's laptop was on charge not on battery. When he turn its laptop on battery the agent snooze like normal. I use BOinc on my own laptop with Vista, and i have no problem. But the question it's not for me. For me, there is a little probleme with the Agent UD on Vista wich don't recognize well the CPU. Maybe i'm wrong ... He needs to download http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe and set the throttle to 100%. I already know the limitation by default of the agent. But i ever know that it don't disturb the benchmark (the benchmark is not affected by this programm). [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 4, 2007 6:28:04 PM] |

Not sure what switching points have been set in the BIOS for the CPU to reduce speed, if at all that can be controlled. He needs to download e.g. CPU-Z to read the actual hrz it is running at (unless the Control Panel screen print shows present running speed). Programs like Speedfan can read out the CPU temp on a continuous basis and show it in the system tray.
----------------------------------------Had not noticed the Vista gadget right hand top reading out the power.... nifty, but can live with the little icon in the system tray :O cheers PS, can u please repost the image in 800x600 (the forum limitation). It scrolls off the screen. Use the little pencil left in the post header to edit.
