Greetings all.
I have to move the WCG agent to another system, the old boxen is beginning to go stupid (technical term). Can I just copy the WCG directory to the second system (same path), and all is well, or is there something else? I looked in faq but couldn't find. Any help appreciated. Thanks THE_PROFESSOR |

I wonder too. Rick Alther replied to a query by someone who actually did this but who then worried that it might be working on work units duplicating the ones on the original that it would work. I confess to being ultra-conservative with programs I do not understand. Why not just install the normal way? But Rick's reply sounds like a go-ahead. Try it and see.

If you do it the correct way. Build here is what you can try: Install a fresh copy of the WCG client on the new computer but don't register it yet. Then copy the map of the WCG client TOTALY over to the other computer and overwrite everything. Maybe that works, don't know that for sure! |

This suggestion seemed to work As above, Registering using the EXACT same info as the First Box also gets the job done. Good Luck! Robert |

Robert I don't think so. Registering with exaxt the same info creates another device and will get a new workunit |

Registering with exact the same info creates another device and will get a new work unit I didn't Notice that THE PROFESSOR was trying to save a work unit. From reading the first post here anyway. Do you? The "Re-Install with Folder Transfer method" has Has Shown at the least, (once) the ability Keep running the same work unit. This may still show that the Same Device Number is retained after returning (or attempting too return) it's work unit.. As far as the Exact same Info Method I am under the Impression that it has worked for me more than once at least for up grades that required me to re register. But that was at UD. |

Hmm, when re-reading he didn't ask that no. But i thought that's what he meant. It's kind of stupid if you have another device in your stats wich is again the same don't you think? Grtz |

Hi All..
Thanks V much for your advice... I should have been more precise... I wanted to move my WCG install to another system and continue where I left off...with the same wu etc. I tried what Pconfig suggested...downloaded the agent again... did not register, then copied the old WCG dir tree and overwrote everything. Et voilla..the agent kept going exactly where it left off before...hasen't finished yet, 2% to go... Thanks again The professor. |
