The profile is set to 2.5 days....I've checked that it is not overriden in the global prefs override file. I am noticing other people reporting similar problems with 5.8.2....I've reported it on the BOINC manager forum.

I'm running BOINC 5.8.2 for Windows and my DCF is 0.926484. I guess Sekerob and retsof are both right, the particular version of BOINC running in the computer has something to do with it. We could be finding a pattern here. Should I go back to 5.4.11? I had the alpha/beta version running for several weeks and forgot about it. The strange queue activity was the only thing wrong. It was easy enough to do. (general reply for anyone reading wanting to change BOINC versions) You can download 5.4.11 ahead of time. EXIT BOINC COMPLETELY so nothing is running. Check again to make sure the exit deletes the BOINC icon. Others have had problems reinstalling BOINC if the programs are still active. Install 5.4.11 right over top of it in the same BOINC program location and bring BOINC up again.

Hello retsof, Wouldn't there problems with my benchmarks if I revert to the old version of BOINC? ![]() |

No, when u change version, the benchmark will be re-run. It's the identical benchmark, so the result should be same (depending on momentary overall system burden).
----------------------------------------After 3 days of BOINC 5.8.2 on the desktop, leaving it alone and the running with the new flop estimates in the WCG work units (changed late last week), my Duration Correction Factor has now sunk to 1.09. The trickle is steady in the task buffer (set to 2.5 days) and has continuously 12-14 waiting to run. For each near completion, a new WU is downloaded. The C2D is still up in arms with a DCF of 1.5. I'll give it more to sort itself out. It's now on the last 2 WU's and has not pulled any new work. Expect it though to start happening near completion of said last 2 (FA@H's).....will report. Update: The C2D with 5.8.2 seems buggered. 10 WU's were pulled when the last of 2 FAAH in progress actually completely finished. The P4 1 thread does great on 5.8.2. perfect trickle 13 in buffer, 1 out / 1 in all the time.

Just saw 2 'i never noticed before' values in the BOINC Default profile
----------------------------------------Use no more than: 6.25 % of processor time Use no more than: 100.0 % of total memory Have asked for an elaboration here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11047. If it is low in your profile, it may explain why not enough work is coming thru using the 5.8 BOINC versions.

I'll be interested to see the reply to this one. I checked my "work" profile (attached to the machine exhibiting the behavior of only pulling work when all work units have completed), both of these values are set to 100% for this machine.

Use no more than: 6.25 % of processor time Check the resource share "project weights" in BOINC if you are running more than one project. Each of these is added to get a total, and divided up to get a task percentage. If all other projects are set to not accept new work, it would not matter what the project weight was. WCG would still get all of the work. Where could that number come from? Suppose you are running 16 BOINC projects, with each project weight set to 100. 16x100 = 1600. 100/1600 = 0.0625, or 6.25% for each project. If you are running 2 BOINC projects with WCG set to 6.25 and the other project set to 93.75, they are added to get 100, and WCG gets 6.25%. Unless there is an extended BOINC server outage, I have WCG set to 1000 and other projects set to 0.01 (small number greater than zero) with "Won't get new tasks". BOINC will not then bug the other projects for queries or work, but they will still show up in the task list. If I want to assign other work, I would then change the project weights so they will get a higher proportion. You usually want something to run at least 2-4 hours before autoswitching projects, to minimize going back to the previous checkpoints or starting over. Special note: The overall BOINC project weight is set for WCG as a whole....as compared to OTHER BOINC projects. The proportion of WCG subprojects (HDC, FAAH, etc.) is not considered.

Now I'm truly confused (
---------------------------------------- ): What it this option than further down "Project Weight: 100.0"? So far i have 6 projects which sum to 150 in weights. In the BOINC projects tab WCG shows at 66.6%. WCG has no awareness at all of the weights set at other projects as far as i know.

So they really made changes in 5.8.2 that's why buffering is quite unusual. My DCF is currently 1.612252 (it was 0.926484 in 5.8.2). I've given up on the other BOINC projects to concentrate on WCG. Doesn't matter what project weight I put in the device profile, I have only one project anyway, :-). ![]() |

WCG doesn't care, but BOINC itself grabs the total for all projects. You have to go into each project to check the profile. I have 30 over here.
