hi just changed my firewall from norton to Outpost firewall. Since the chabge mr computer is constantly connecting to your sever. Can anyone help. Hello I have tried putting it on a trusted list as was suggested but still seems to be doing the same thing. It connects to your server gets a work unit then in less than 1 minute it re connects to your server to return it. I am not really that computer literate so if anyone can help please give me step by step instructions  Yours in hope |

i have also recently put on spybot search and destroy and avg free edition virus checker.

Hello Phil1,
AVG Antivirus is not a problem. So my first suggestion is to try BOINC instead. Here are the migration instructions: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm You will probably have to tell Outpost to TRUST all the BOINC processes, since they communicate with each other, which Outpost will probably consider suspect behavior. I see that Outpost offers a free 30-day trial, which would let me experiment with it. But I hate fiddling with my machine to eliminate my current firewall, so I would like to start out by making you do all the work. Lawrence |

Got an issue, take a tissue.... just reading (@ BOINC dev) that someone has 800,000 writes per day to his stdxxxxx.txt files of BOINC, which i understand is perfectly 'normal'. If firewalls or antivir have a problem with BOINC, have a look at that 'problem'.

I am having the same problems with the UD program. I have outpost as well. All settings on outpost is set to trust the program but it is still not running right. Can anyone out there share some light on this??

I have 2 machines with different firewall and different AV... neither have upload / download problems with UD(WCG/grid) agent. If the problem is recent, i.a.w. it worked fine before, examine all security options:
----------------------------------------1. Have u completely disabled Outpost? 2. Have u tried uninstalling, than booting, than starting UD Agent without FW/AV? 3. Is there any anti-spam running on the side? 4. When u gave permission, did u do that for all 3 running components: UD.exe + UD_xxxxx.exe + WCGxxxxxx.exe. ? The 3 UD parts interact, similar to BOINC. From past experience, firewalls dont always tell they dont like it. Also UD agent creates on start-up a transient file, which some of the FWs require to be permitted: UDwin_3801_2844.DLL Shedding of light is difficult with the almost infinite combination of agents with OS variations, FW/AV/Spam blockers. The agent software is static, but the security software changes all the time, including it's behavior.

tired what was suggested on the previous post and after turning off all firewalls on my computer windows and outpost were off) i still hafd the same problem. I then rebooted my system just in case that was neeeded for everything to take i had switch off to take place. Still no joy.
The 2 other programs i changed at the same time was to put on AVG and spybot search and destroy. I also at the same time took off norton security suite (Symantic is the company's name) I have allowed 4 iyems under outpost UD_(set of numbers).exe UD.EXE NVSVC32.exe All these appear under the UD umbrella. i have also put under my trusted list WCG_HPF2_ROSETTA.exe I have also uninstalled world community grid hoping that would solve it but no joy. Sorry i am being a pain but i am grateful for any help |
