Hello,
For about 4 days now my grid agent is trying to connect to the grid server to send its results but it can't. I haven't had any probelms what so ever and now all of sudden I am. Although my pc is always on, I have a broadband connection that is always on so its not a matter of not being able to send the data when it needs too. I thought maybe it was not able to send since I installed the new verison of McAfee although thats not the cause because the program has been granted full access for both outbound and inbound connections through the McAfee firewall. I also tried turning the firewall off totally and it still is paused and trying to send its results but it still for some reason can not. Is there something wrong on my end or the grid servers end?? Thanks Seaquake2 |

Hi seaquake2,
The grid server seems to be perfectly OK to me. There have been issues reported with some versions of McAfee so I should certainly check out the AV & Firewall issues thread in the Start Here forum. Why not temporarily turn off McAfee and see if you can then get a work unit? The other obvious thing is to make sure your machine meets the minimum system requirements for the projects you have selected in your device profile. David. |

Hello seaquake2,
Have you tried rebooting? Lawrence |

I'm having the same problem, only i just installed Kaspersky Internet Security. I've also allowd UD full network access.
the problem i'm manged to diagnose (but not solve) is that it has something to do with SSL tunneling. that is - UD uses SSL to connect to the server. Kaspersky tunnels all SSL traffic through it inorder to scan it for viruses. when i disable kaspersky the agent manages to connect send results and retrieve work units. any idea or solutions? (i'm thinking boinc) |

(i'm thinking boinc) It sounds like Kaspersky is filtering the data to ensure it's actually SSL traffic and if it's not, blocks it. While UD uses port 443, it actually doesn't use SSL. It uses its own proprietary encryption scheme. Thus, some SPI firewalls that actually look at the data to ensure its "proper" SSL data will block the UD agent from sending. There are likely a couple of solutions. Not having Kaspersky, I don't know how to actually do this in their firewall, but you should be able to implement one of the following solutions:

Hello tuvalo,
Years ago when the UD software was being written, the SSL implementation had a security bug in it which took (if my memory is correct) almost a year to fix with an official patch. The UD software came out with a non-official patch before the official patch was released. Therefore, the SSL protocol used by UD is secure but not compatible with the official standard. Any firewall / anti-virus program that requires that the official SSL standard be used will block the UD client. At least, that is my (possibly erroneous) understanding. Lawrence |

One may want to have a look over at forum.Grid.org where also battles were fought of UD agent v 'Kaspersky', sometimes referred to as 'Kasperski'... e.g. http://forum.grid.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=405065#405065.

Hi Phil1,
just changed my firewall from norton to Outpost firewall. Since the change my computer is constantly connecting to your sever. Can anyone help. The Log Viewer should tell you which processes it is blocking. Just set the rules to TRUST these processes. Lawrence |
