i am not really into linux but i do like to play with it from time to time, mostly i like the ubuntu idea "that it should just work" i get impatient and frustrated early, i did try to upgrade last time from unbuntu to 6.06 LTS but alas was too fiddly to get boinc wcg up and running so i went back to suse 10, i see that ubuntu feisty fawn is due for release on april 19th so i will wait for that, and let projects finish / no new work etc then , install a newer linux ie ubuntu then a fresh install of boinc... fyi i did try to put yellow dog linux onto my PS3 but no joy :( .. it would be nice if it was an easy install like on XP .. hmmm.. 11 more days till new linux so i will simply wait till then and fresh install, am interested in DID's suggestion about the package managers , i had done manual installs a few times and of course messed up every 2nd one, once i get it to work i tend to leave it alone.
will eagerly watch the forums for others people comments / experience cheers |

Perhaps the slug was too lazy to pay his domain fee. Almost ! The domain reg was all paid up, but forgot to renew the actual web space fee. Everything is back up and running now.On the subject of upgrading, Didactylos is spot on. The Windows installer handles everything. Do NOT delete any files. Do NOT exit BOINC. Simply download and run the installer (as an administrator). It will shut down BOINC, delete the old files (keeping work in progress) and install the new files automatically. If you just overwrite files, the original msi file can often leap into action and put the original files back. The most eligent way of doing updates would be for BOINC to produce an msp package for existing users. (msp files update an installation AND the original msi hidden away on your PC, which keeps the integrity of the package incase you ever need to repair an installation.)
