Re: Are BOINC servers down?

Same issue here. Folding until it gets straightened out.

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

I saw it on one small computer, but the others are all processing normally, and have a few days work in hand to boot. I'll mess with that slow machine again in the morning. One computer is connected and uploading/downloading.

upload finished at 10:40 PM CST.

There's no reason to jump ship over ONE workunit. I sent in 76 in 24 hours a few days ago.

You DO have some workunits in the queue to hold you over???
I try to keep mine full after some problems I saw over at that other place.

You don't?

The BOINC profile default of 0.1 day between network connections is really very tiny and could be increased.
It shouldn't be set too close to the reporting deadline of 7 days, to allow for things like this that might happen 7 days out.

2-4 days is a typical setting.

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

Caution.

When you are attached to ~20 projects (as I am), and they each have 2 days worth of work, you can end up with 48 days (single thread) of work downloaded. That is well past the reporting limit of most projects.

Of course, my example is extreme. You can extrapolate the math based on the number of projects you are attached to, and the number of cores and threads your machines have. But you can see why the default is .1.

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

Uploading is not the problem... I have 45 jobs ready to report and when they do, then start downloading my network connection will be so jammed up nothing will get through... Back to micro- management I guess... d oh

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

Well, things are still down but at least we know the admins know too. They're working on it. Must be a doozy though. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10703 has them working on it a couple of hours ago but I suspect it's been longer. Interesting when you look at the global stats. BOINC may only be 15-20% of the machines but it seems they do a lot more of the work than that. Yesterday's points total was off by what seems to be about 25% and today's is already about half of what you'd expect to see. That will change of course when things are back up and the WU reports come rolling in.

Yep, I got the same symptoms Night Owl. I haven't been able to 'Report' a work unit for nearly 24 hours but I am getting new work units added to my cache (4 days).

With luck the situation won't get worse before it gets better and WCG can keep us supplied with units till the reporting problem is resolved.

PS All will be sorted without the need to break into little red fonts. laughing

I'm not. I can only upload. There are a few left in my cache still though. (2 days).

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

All work units processed and no new work coming in! This is a tragedy! I demand bonus points!

Re: Are BOINC servers down?

Another problem is that 'ready to report' WUs are going to start missing their deadlines soon; my first deadline is under 12 hours away.

Not sure if you're addressing me, retsof, but the answer is NO, I don't have any work units in queue to hold me over. I'm not jumping ship, just taking a small swim in neighboring waters, lol. I never adjusted any settings in BOINC to allow for a store of work units. Perhaps I should, though.
