Yes, it's true I have a lousy machine running this project and it's unfortunate that it only puts me at beating over half of the current participants. But then again, it's not about beating each other...Perhaps we should keep that in mind.
The alien conspiracy...well...I'll keep that to myself! And the acronym NoMAD...well...It stands for the link posted below the name. It is for the relentless pursuit of justice in an unfair system. |

It pains me to say it but I agree with NoMAD.
The size of the contribution to WCG should have nothing to do with ability to contribute to the fora. From this info NoMAD has produced 10 results, any of which could be a key breakthrough - we just dont know yet. His contribution should be seen as equally as important as the 67 results and 55K points I have returned so far. I think it very wrong that we set a precident where the amount of compute power determines an individuals right to contribute. That said, I struggle with the content of this thread - what are you trying to say NoMAD? You are clearly passionate about the subject of grids vs supercomputers ("raining on the parade") but this is bizarre and I dont follow your thinking. How about you start a thread which aims to find the top ten reasons that a grid is better than a supercomputer and vice versa? Somebody as articulate as you should have no problems creating a positive and lively debate which will benefit the community. Paul |

It pains me to say it but I agree with NoMAD. This thread was originally intended to stay light-hearted and fun, however there was perhaps some friction that carried over from other posts in regards to the grids vs supercomputers comments. I would be the ![]() ![]() |

No·MAD --
I think that what upset a few of us early on in this thread had nothing to do with your attempts at humor, but rather the personal attacks which you made in the post originally entered Dec 18, 2004 3:51:19 PM in this thread which has subsequently been edited 4 times as I write this. In it, you first said that people from another users country were beggers full of helium. In another edit of that post, you had changed it to read "You're an idiot". Please realize that with over 32,000 members, not everyone will always see the humor in what you write. We are of different cultures and our ages range from the very young to the elderly (getting close to that myself) and our senses of humor probably range from wacko to non-existant. In any event, if someone doesn't see the humor in something you write, it does not deserve a personal attack. With that said, let's all get back to what probably drew us all to the WCG in the first place, contributing to projects that will, hopefully, help mankind and bury the hatchets that appear to have been sharpened in our forum discussions. Cheers, |

How 'bout I bury the hatchet in your thick dimwitted head?
----------------------------------------haha. It doesn't matter, I thought it was funny and so did a couple of others. As you pointed out there are over 32,000 members and not everyone is going to have a sense of humor. Generally people tend to be quicker to respond to something they don't agree with rather than responding to something that they either agree with or simply don't care about. Perhaps no one would have responded unless they didn't agree with something on this post. Pconfig gave my post a thumbs down and I returned the favor and all hell broke loose. A couple of people from your team was pulling in one direction and a few strangers was pulling with me in another direction. Perhaps for the sake of the humor-handicapped I should employ a more liberal use of smilies to indicate when humor is implied. ![]() ![]() ![]() BTW, this is why we don't see anything on Mars - ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 23, 2004 12:42:07 AM] |

Perhaps for the sake of the humor-handicapped I should employ a more liberal use of smilies to indicate when humor is implied. ![]() ![]() ![]() No-MAD, One of the things that I have found on all of my time on the Internet and bulletin boards before that (nearly 20 years), is that what counts for humour in one person's mind is seen as derogatory/insulting/not funny in another person's. This is just like real life - we could both go to a comedy show and you may find a particular joke funny and I could hate it. This does not mean that I am "humor-handicapped" but rather have a different interpretation of what I find funny. |

I don't know where you come off thinking it is humorous to even appear to distribute a virus in these forums. Many people and institutions are very sensitive to security issues with good reason. Making it appear that viruses are distributed through the WCG forums might have the effect of keeping some people from participating due to security. |
