hi all. i've just registered for this project and installed UD agent. one of agents is installed on IBM x236 server with PAE enabled and 8gb of RAM. but as i can see in Device information agent determines only 2gb of RAM. is it kinda normal? can i do anything to make it determine RAM correctly?

I think in the old days (where the UD agent is from), 2gb was the max detectable Ram (and the maximum recognized for the Device Rating i.e. 400). It makes no sense at all to look for more, as the agent is single thread and only uses at peak on Help Defeat Cancer, but rarely, 1gb.

To supplement, here is the definition relating to point awards which can be found in the help section:
----------------------------------------The final values for all four parameters are weighted, totaled, and factored to generate a whole number of points greater than or equal to 1 for each result returned. While any individual parameter can overachieve the corresponding parameter for World Community Grid Comparison Device by any level, no work unit completed by any machine will earn more than twice the total number of points World Community Grid Comparison Device would earn for that same work unit. Note: The slightest variance in any of the five parameters coupled with the inherent differences across multiple applications and work units within one project will result in different point values being assigned per work unit completion. Effectively, whatever value u have, u'd never gain more than 200% of the reference, however 'overachieving' the Device rating is. In BOiNC, there is no restriction. It can run multi-threaded i.e. would do 4 simultaneously if the computer has 4 cores..... 8gb ram with Physical Address Extension could handle 4 Help Defeat Cancer work units in parallel.....if u want to allocate that much resource. BOiNC allows to set the number of CPU cores used.

IBM x236 server with PAE enabled and 8gb of RAM If you have more than one processor in there, then you will be better off with BOINC. |
