Avast antivirus identifies WCG as containing a virus

Perhaps the heuristics within the scanner came across a specific state of one of the files, but after weeks of them running in parallel, Avast antivirus suddenly identified wcg_gfx.state as containing a virus in the Mnemonix family.

I'm sure it wasn't a real virus, but i quarantined the file and WCG just started the work unit again after a restart.

Just and FYI

Re: Avast antivirus identifies WCG as containing a virus

Hi Feist,

thanks for reporting that, what exact science project was this... FAAH, HDC, GC, HPF2 and what agent UD or BOiNC?

I use Avast, since a long time and know the heuristics are sometime throwing out things like 'partial virus sig'. Have told it not to quarantine unless i tell it to... just make the process stop.

Saw a few days ago a buffer overflow process as well.... from front to back end and told the antivir that it was okay...... any x scans by other software still shows squeaky clean.... always collect second opinion on virus issues.

cheers

PS, my library gets updated every hour or so, thus if false positive we can report at Alwil and get it cleaned up.... have a paid subscription for support, so they'll act.
