Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

It's delivered by MS's own download manager app, written in Java LOL

maybe I should download the JRE updates first wink

You would think when the download manager says it's OK it's OK

Too trusting by half maybe

Going to catch some ZZzz's and see what the morrow brings

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

It was suggested to wait....well i'm not going to wait at all, since i'm not going to buy it.....The version for my CPU rated good for the 'Ultimate' is going to cost 250 USD thus 450 Euro in shops here, likely more, since there is this other special Italian conspiracy, not to offer upgrades and if you ask for 'can you order it for me' you get an initial gaze as if water is burning, then an emphatic NO. Maybe, maybe, order from an online vendor like Amazon, but only when it's SP1 'least....until then The Gates will assimilate you, with unapproved/unrequested 'feedback' to GatesCentral. beat up

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Dagorath, I've been the ultimate daredevil...selectively allowed the updates 1 by 1..... 4 of 7 down, WAU proposed for installation....machine still boots devilish now we'll be sitting back for that new Excel hole that surfaced the day after.....it's like they're waiting for update tuesday and make announcement on wednesday....CruftBill is known to not deviate from program so the hackers have 30 days to do their handywork.....personally, i'd never touch the likes of Secunia...not proposing a fix/solution/workaround and make a big hoohaah is not what anyone is waiting for.... the "We are not responsible" attitude is revolting.

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Sekerob, Glad to hear you're getting the updates to install. They installed here on ME, 2K, XP and XP Pro x64 beta, no problems. Guess I was one of the lucky ones.

The revolting "i'm not responsible" attitude goes hand-in-hand with the "we can do it therefore we should do it, doesn't matter who it hurts" attitude and the "hey everybody, look what I can do, I'm like so kewl" attitude. Infants, the world is their diaper.

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

It IS as certain as the sun rises, sort of......come Tuesday July 11, 06 its that dreaded day again. 7 Critical updates, 4 for windows, 3 for office. Last month the 7 or so were actually covering 23 or so flaws, so be prepared to discover.....oh and there will be a WGA critical update hiding in the bunch beat up Like ET (& Apple now too), MSFT still calls home, albeit less frequent thinking

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Hi Sekerob still no sign

except for yet another Windows Genuine Advantage download !!

Which requires a reboot 3!!!'s

How many more times are those folk back in Redmond going to make me prove that yes this really is a genuine version of Windows just like it was the last time you checked - A genuine full XP Pro Shrink wrapped boxed version no less before I discovered true OEM versions for nearly a third of the price d oh

You live and learn

Off to reboot hopefully I'll be back

Arnie

I just ignore it now.

No advantage is worth that much trouble.

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

The patches are hiding behind the WGA update

Once you have proved to Bill you have paid over the odds he lets you download fixes for all the holes in the software you paid over the odds for in the first place - you couldn't make it up

When I've stopped R(ing)OMALMHO I'll download these updates to my non-essential PC's - those that just crunch. This is a waste of an evening every month when I could be doing something useful with my time like sleeping for instance

I'll let you know - wish me luck I'm going in
