Re: What do you think about this?
I think we heard from 3 people.  I guarantee that the show did not conduct a true random sample (meaning all people have equal probability of being selected for the sample).  Rather, I'm sure they just chose a bunch of people on the street and then chose to let us listen to what 3 dumba$$es had to say in order to make their point.

I also guarantee that if the show went to rural Arkansas and attributed Obama's views to McCain, there would also be equally ignorant people that would think McCain supported a pullout, had Biden as vice presidential candidate, etc...

I'm not at all surprised that people are that ignorant.  I do, however, think that the show producers selected dumb people to make their point and to be funny.

Hey, let's pick on another state for a while. Just because you're from Texas doesn't mean you get to select AR as your whipping post. I don't know of anyone here in my rural neck of the woods who is that ill informed.

I do know that it is impossible to keep up with Obama's views on the war and whether or not he's for a full or partial pullout of the troops today -  OH  - and let's not forget that the very person who lied to the American people and got us into the war is now backing Obama because of Obama's views on said war - whatever those views may be today. Yeah, I can see how those folks in Harlem could get all confused up in their facts there. But what do I know - I'm just some ignorant rural hick from AR. I think I will go feed my invisible goats now. ;)

I heard this previously and it does not surprise me at all.

I am rather miffed because our business is in the bracket of "sharing the wealth".  I told my dh that I think we should see off the business cheap and jump on the welfare boat...would probably be taken better care of!  No one gave us anything in this life time and now we are expected to share the goods?????  What is up with that?  I want to know how much Obama will be sharing???

Off my soap box now...seriously PMS-ing.

Re: What do you think about this?

First, I chose “rural Arkansas” because it is known to be a politically conservative area with lots of white people.  Harlem was chosen by the show because it is a known politically liberal area that is demographically dominated by black people. Hence, I was attempting to make as parallel of a comparison as I could.  I could have just as easily chosen Texas, but I was feeling Arkansas at the moment.

I bet you didn’t know that my people are from Arkansas.  In fact, half of my family still lives there.  Last time I checked, my Uncle Lee still doesn’t have plumping.  How’s that for rural? I also grew up in a trailer park in Texas on welfare.  I just want to make it clear that I would never use any underrepresented group of people as a “whipping post” nor would I ever “pick” on anyone that is impoverished or different than me. I’m a bleeding heart liberal, remember?

And although you may not know anyone so ignorant as to think McCain chose Biden as a running mate, I guarantee you (in fact, I would bet all of my money if I actually had any), that there are plenty of them out there in rural Arkansas, old-money Boston, Boca Raton, Philadelphia, Texas, Nebraska,
NYC, and everywhere else.

And while I’m on the subject, I think I’ll take a break from my high horse and admit that I am ignorant on a number of important issues, so that’s why I’m not surprised to see that many people are ill-informed when it comes to politics.  Crap, until 2 weeks ago, I couldn’t even locate Connecticut on a map.  I also have lived in Philly for going on 5 years, and I have no idea who the governor of my state is.

I just want to say that it’s hard for everyone to stay informed when it comes to political issues or current events.  So many people work full-time jobs, and all they want to do is come home and relax rather than watch the last debate.  Of course, I believe our country would be in a better place if people took the time to be well-informed, but sometimes it’s difficult, especially considering how the economy has taken so much of our free time.

Re: What do you think about this?
 Thank you Leslie.

In most election periods I am considered a bleeding heart as well and in general, politics aside, I am still one.

Bleeding heart or not, I still find it believable that there are more people of the African American race that will be voting based on the color of Obama's skin than on his principles or policy, just as there will be those who will be voting against him in certain areas of the country for exactly the same reason.

The irony is that until this election the southern, black voter was leaning more toward the Republican party; the Democratic party was losing its base in that area because the black churches were preaching solidarity among values, faith-based initiatives, pro-military/GI benefits and pro-life causes. Where did those values and beliefs go this year?

That's all....
I really don't mean to come across as a female. This is the debate forum, AR gets kicked around a lot and it gets old which is why I posted what I did. :)
