I have been running the grid client on my server for a long time now, and it has typically done about 2 tasks per day.
----------------------------------------I just noticed that it is now already working for 292 hours on one single task, and it is only at 91%! Should I worry, or is this normal? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 11, 2006 9:19:12 AM] |

Going from 2 per day to one in 292 hours is no good. U dont tell what project u run, but find in your taskmanager a program starting with WCG. Terminate that and u will get a new job. A few have been reported in the last few day for Help Defeat Cancer. Plz keep monitoring and report back.

I did that, and it did indeed start a fresh task.
This has now been running for more than 29 hours, and it is sitting at 2%! Doesn't look good. I can go back in and cancel that task, but somehow it doesn't seem to be the right solution. Can someone shed some light on this? |

Hello Hans Man,
Which project is giving you trouble? Have you tried a reboot? Does Task Manager show the WCG task running at high speed? For that matter, have you changed the throttle setting from 60%? ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655 ) Lawrence |

this is a server I'm talking about, I don't like to reboot every time this program needs it, there is more at stake here.
The Grid program has been running OK for a very long time now, and now all of a sudden things go wrong. PLease don't tell me nothing has changed in the tool.... I'm in IT myself, and things like this don't just happen by itself. I have cancelled several tasks now, and at this moment it reports 48 hours, and it is at 2%. Does not look good...! Working on FightAids@Home. |

Are you only running FightAIDS@Home? Each project uses an entirely different program, so this is important to know.
FightAIDS@Home does rarely have very large work units. Also, you are the only person reporting this right now. Terminating a work unit in UD is very difficult. It could be that you merely disrupted it, and it started the same troublesome work unit again. Are you sure you are killing the right process? It should be the process using most of your CPU time. |

We have been changing AutoDock for BOINC lately to give it graphics, but my copy of AutoDock for UD has not changed since August 2006. I just checked to make sure my memory was correct. It should be running as WCGrid_AutoDock.exe. If you kill that (NOT the UD client) then UD should send an error message to the WCG server and download a new unit. If that does not change things, then I suggest minimizing aggravation by just killing the UD client and then WCGrid_AutoDock. It will start up again after your next boot, and you can check it then. Sometimes the most sensible way to act is just to avoid frustration.
Even better is to do nothing. Running at last priority on a server can cause a work unit to take forever if much else is running. Have you recently started running a new or changed program or device driver on your server? Lawrence |

I don't know what happened, but the problem went away. [I killed the wcg... task once more, and the machine has been crunching at 2 jobs per day since...
Happy for the time being, but I hate it when that happens. Problems that go away by themselves have a tendency of returning when you don´t expect it! |

Plz keep us posted.... if its FA@H, than this is for sure the least problematic running project we have at almost 31 million work units completed. As mentioned by Lawrence, the only change was adding graphics for those on BOiNC to make it look similar to UD agent graphics screen.
