I have the grid agent installed on two laptops. Everything is running OK now, but I had to play around with my firewalls after the recent 1.0.0.4 update to enable communication again.
However, on one of the laptops, I am now getting a dialog box containing the message "There are no graphics to display at this time" whenever I click the "i" button in the agent window. The agent has been working on a task for over 6 hours, so it seems as if there should be some graphics to show by now. I have never seen this message before, and I couldn't find any reference to this problem in any of the forums. Has anyone else seen this problem? Thanks |

This is certainly new to me. It does not sound like this problem:
McAfee 8.0 Problems http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=347#3130 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=753#3129 So is there anything on the "Agent Paused" page helpful at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/join_now/agent_paused.html Is the Task Execution Progress advancing? |

I have seen that message when I was between workunits, does the laptop appear to be actively working on crunching ("Primary task is executing...") , or is there some other status message?

Thanks for the quick replies... I will respond to the first one, since I don't want to repeat the info in multiple posts.
I agree that this is not the McAfee problem (BTW, I use Norton IS 2004). The work unit downloaded and started normally hours ago. No help from any of the posts I have found anywhere... It's crunching away ("Primary task is executing...") and has been for nearly 7 hours now. The task seems to be running fine, and the Task Run Time is incrementing normally. BTW, I have rebooted this PC twice in the last 3-4 hours, just to see what would happen. Each time, after the reboot, the task resumed normally, and the run time number kept incrementing normally - no "lost task" or restarting on a new task - just "no graphics to view..."! This is weird... I will be interested to see if it keeps up once this work unit is finished and a new one is started. Maybe it's just something weird about this particular work unit. |

This is strange indeed. The only time you should get the "No graphics to view" message is when the agent is not currently processing a workunit. I'll inquire to see if there are any other special circumstances when this could occur during the processing of a workunit. The only thing I can think of is that you are missing a DLL that the graphics library requires. These are the DLLs that the graphics library requires. See if you can find them on your system:
These should all normally already be installed. They should be located in c:\windows\system32 Have you ever seen the graphics? What happens when you view the screensaver? What OS are you running and how much RAM do you have?

Sorry folks - I have been away from my computer for awhile.
Anyway, I decided to just reinstall the software instead of trying to diagnose a weird problem that no one else had seen. Once I reinstalled, everything started working OK - I see the graphics normally now. The only thing I can think of is that the graphics DLL(s) got hammered somehow. I didn't have to reinstall anything else - just the WCG software. Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this false alarm. Next time I see anything weird, I'll just do a reinstall before reporting anything. Can't wait to get to ONE HUNDRED BILLION points! |

Alther, I wanted to answer your questions, even though I fixed this problem by reinstalling 1.0.0.4.
All of the Windows DLLs you mentioned are present and accounted for. I have a P4M 1.7 with 1GB RAM running XP SP2. New IBM ThinkPad T41P - sweet little machine. Before the recent (and apparently partially failed?) update, I had seen the graphics normally, with the normal screensaver showing the graphics. However, after the update, the screensaver only showed the WCG logo - ONLY the logo, not even the floating graphics window, just a floating logo. Thanks for your responses everyone! It's nice to be part of a caring, vibrant community like this. Dr. Evil |

As you found out, reinstalling fixed the problem.
