Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks Kate. Try looking in the power settings if you can change performance to high. If not, check your BIOS to see if there is a setting to maximize CPU frequency. Do you have a dedicated GPU in the case with the APU?

My husband said he'd set the power settings to maximum performance. I'll double check myself when I'm home tonight. He may have done that just for CPU, not with CCC.

We don't have an additional dedicated GPU, just the APU.

Thanks Kate. Am curious how much CCC will allow you to adjust.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!
I am down one cruncher. One of my P4 3.4ghz machines was dead this morning. That will give me something to do later. Might be time to retire it. If it is something simple I will fix it, but anything motherboard related and it becomes a parts machine. I originally had three of this model, but one blew the heads off of a couple of capacitors so it was retired. I may be down to only one left.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

That bites. At least it produced results for you while it was running. Maybe look at some kits sold at newegg for cheap. A quad socket AMD with board and memory is going cheap now. May not be the latest chip but would be more energy efficient. Good luck.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Since the GPU work units started I have not had one invalid or error work unit. biggrin
I've done several hundred work units.
No overclocking on the cards and HT turned off in the bios. So each GPU WU has it's own real core. 3 cores for CPU work units and one dedicated to the GPU work units.
Manual fan settings so the cards stay at 70-75C or less.
Turned off Aero and run classic desktop, turned off all that eye candy crap in windows 7.
I also have no video lag what so ever with these settings. Life is good. hugs

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Brink, from what I have seen, you don't have to set aside a core for GPU work as boinc follows what you specify for number cores to crunch with. So if you specify 75% on a quad core, only 3 cores will be use which includes the GPU wu. I watched it pause one of my CPU wu's to crunch a GPU wu.

Yes, I run boinc using 100%. WCG disables a core for the GPU. Very neat feature that I've only seen done here.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I can hardly wait see how you gpu guys are doing. I do not have any cards eligible at this time. I will wait to see how the numbers shake out for a while. The good news is I acquired another 8 core server for $30. Hopefully I can get it set up this weekend.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Great news about the new server! How on earth did you manage that? It must promise to more than make up for the dead crunching machine.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Eight core server? NICE! applause

I did just a tick over 400 GPU work units today equaling just over 100,000 in points. Now that's cool! coffee
