Thanks guys. Guess I will stick with regular ones for now. I'll keep saving for my next crunching machine. Maybe by fall the six shooters will come down in price. A 12 pack crunching machine gets me drooling.

Sgt Joe, You asked on a dirfferent thread how is my new 1090t. It should help the team! Here are the top nine machines on the team, and I think they are all mine. Although no one else has any of these machine types so they are not hurt by averages. 1 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz 1 201,130.35 5,405.66 201,130.35 5,405.66 0.004376 2 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz 1 158,804.83 4,808.19 158,804.83 4,808.19 0.003662 3 Intel(R) Core(tm) i7 CPU 975 @ 3.33GHz 1 1,121,076.96 4,213.61 1,121,076.96 4,213.61 0.007119 4 Intel(R) Core(tm) i7 CPU 965 @ 3.20GHz 1 2,076,762.68 3,460.75 2,076,762.68 3,460.75 0.005263 5 AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor 1 160,859.34 1,864.38 160,859.34 1,864.38 0.005985 6 Intel(R) Core(tm)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz 1 1,417,274.39 1,746.59 1,417,274.39 1,746.59 0.006214 7 AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor 1 882,749.72 1,733.33 882,749.72 1,733.33 0.005267 8 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor 1 715,222.26 1,698.19 715,222.26 1,698.19 0.004989 9 AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor 1 444,236.30 1,586.27 444,236.30 1,586.27 0.004669 It is now number 8, but I expect it to move into 5th place. Not bad for $295. I was even able to shift around three processors, on motherboards, so I did not have to buy another one. This replaced an X2 6000 that I had. - Mitch For $295 I would say that is phenomenal. I think TXVB has an I7 920, but other than that and Bearcat's Mac Pro I don't think anyone can touch you. Cheers I have three Core 2 Q9550s that are overclocked to varying degrees (see sig) that do between 2000 and 2400 points per day putting them between #4 and #5 in the list above during the winter when all four cores are going. In the summer I only run 3 cores on each so my AC doesn't have to run as much.

I did not mean to demean anyone else's crunching efforts. Have you ever looked at the MCD (massive concrete dome) construction? I think Grand Meadow built their schools out of them. Cheers

Have you ever looked at the MCD (massive concrete dome) construction? I think Grand Meadow built their schools out of them. Cheers Briefly... their circular nature makes them not very space efficient, especially for smaller (aka residential) structures. I also imagine they aren't very conducive to having lots of windows. I think it's also near impossible to find a skilled builder of them for a small project. ICF is unlikely to be harmed by anything less than an EF5 tornado... good enough for me...

Hello fellows from long time...
----------------------------------------Been quite busy, work stuff etc... About climate, it has went little a bit odd here also. There was this one day, that was heat record since 30 years.. That day seems to continue hold week and it just seems to continue.... Quite hot here.. Apropoo, moving myself also to another place... I did get this tiny condo from dense zone... I feel quite uncomfortable on dense zone, but on figures: Unemployment 3,1% (nation average 11%) Families with children 63,7 % (nation average 24 %) So it is one of those places were woman is homemaker or teacher on elementary school and man is engineer on some IT -house and both drives with Volvo..... I think I can handle few years there. ![]() |

Guys,
----------------------------------------this is so awesome..... I went to see my purchase today and found out that there is hiidenkiuas (ancient burial ground) behind my condo... Building is very near top of hill, but most top of hill has been untouchable for few decades... I was very eager to see what is inside of that ghost forest (trees twist to odd shapes when growing on bedrock) and quite soon understand why there is nothing on very top of hill. Somebody has zone that area for cemetery 4000 year ago and there fore is of course protected by National Board of Antiques.... I'm living on metropolitan area, but I have ancient forest very next to my building, so I do not need to be afraid that somebody will put pizza hut or anything to my back yard...... So cool..... I'm going to move to hill of tranguility Here is view from my window, top of hill is quite much there on image. Here is view from top of hill, there is not really any becouse trees has been able to grow as high as they can resist wind... And here we have hiidenkiuas, burial ground, established 4000 year ago. Please do not mind finger on image ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jul 9, 2010 4:22:24 PM] |

Anyone here using any type of liquid cooling on there crunching machines? Debating if it's worth it. My Linux 8 core gets a bit loud when those CPU fans kick in. Debating between this and putting it in the basement where it's cooler. What I don't know is how often I would have to refill the tank. Am looking at Koolance web site pricing parts. Wish I could install one in my Mac pro but haven't heard of anyone doing this.

Yes in deed.
----------------------------------------Best part is that those walls are steep enough to keep most of people away.... Some teenagers will found their way to smoke some bud there, but after couple of them wins Darvin Award, word gets around 8D I went through future zoning plans and they just cannot touch that hill any further. There is reservation area around that tomb. Boy, I can zip beer on king's grave. It sure is hot here, and just getting hotter.. 30'C = 86'F ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jul 10, 2010 6:39:51 PM] |

Wish I could install one in my Mac pro but haven't heard of anyone doing this. I think you need to do fluid replacement at least once a year. Inspect for leaks monthly. What two CPUs do you have in there? What case? What CPU HSFs? What CPU temps are you actually seeing? Can you manually control fan speeds? I don't have any dual CPU machines, but my Quad Cores, especially overclocked, do pump out a lot of heat. I could recommend some nice cases with really good airflow that are also plenty quiet. My latest and favorite is an NZXT. Water cooling is really only necessary for uber-overclocking. Often including overclocking a high end gaming video card (which actually generates far more heat than any CPU!). If you're "just crunching" at close to stock clock speeds, a good case and HSF should suffice just fine. My Radeon HD4870 plus my 3.5ghz Core 2 Quad probably put out more heat than your dual CPU machine, and they are in an Antec case built for quiet rather than cooling, yet neither component gets anywhere near overheating. The Radeon cooling is stock (though I manually adjust fan speeds to be just barely audible) and the CPU HSF is a nice big Zallman which is also only barely audible under the case fans, which are plenty quiet for a living room setting. If you're running the stock Intel HSFs, ditch those and get some Zallman coolers. The Intel stuff is utter crap, at least it was on the Core 2 Quad series. I don't think the Core i5/i7 stuff is much better.
