Re: Minnesota Crunchers

That light bulb looks like it might be intended for movie projector. I've seen similar bulbs that were also 750W and 1000W back in the 1970's when I had a part time job as a projectionist for a few years ...

Hello darth. Thanks for stopping by. Projector bulb eh ? Not something I would have ever known. Bet those 1000W jobs really produced heat.

Cheers

I once had a floor lamp with a 100/200/300W three-way in the main socket and three 40W bulbs around that. Even with the shade, I really enjoyed the 400+Ws in the winter. I bet 1000W would toast marshmellows! biggrin

They did indeed produce a lot of heat. There was a metal cover that surrounded the bulb that got warm enough to cause nasty burns, even with a fan helping to exhaust the heat out of the top of the projector (doesn't that sound like a CPU cooler?). You had to be careful when threading the film to not accidentally touch it. The cover had to be secured with a couple of wing nuts so that it would stay in place, but there were no interlocks to make sure the cover was in place before turning on the bulb.

I heard some cautionary tales of projectionists getting temporary flash blindness from looking at one of the bulbs while it was on due to getting lazy while replacing a bulb and testing the projector with the cover open. Whether true or not, I had no interest in finding out. tongue

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Now if only bioncstats would fix my cpid. straight face

Just sold my G4 mac and a radius 21" crt for 60 bucks. tongue
My next rig to sell is a HP workstation xw6000. 2 X 2.8Ghz xeon first gen hyperthreading processors. On board 320 adaptec scsi controler, 8x AGP. I actually have two of these rigs but one is my boys and he does not want to give his up. I'm planning on getting rid of all my computers that are pre core 2 duo. I figure one i7 computer can do more that 5 of my old PC for probably less electricity cost. thinking

Sgt Joe, your hard drives are in the mail. Should be there Saturday or Monday.

Smart move. You going to build one or buy it? Been looking at the xeon version of the i7 and dual socket mobo. Not to bad of price provided I stay at 2.5ghz processor or less.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

How are your chickens surviving the winter, Sgt.Joe? After 7" of rain in the last 9 days, mine are looking a bit like wet tea bags. laughing They have the option of staying in the hen house (completely enclosed), the chicken coop (with roof) or going into the outside pen. Sooooo ... they go outside and stand in the rain. confused Still laying up a storm though and I still suppy me and two neighbours. Even though there is no difference, people just love to get brown eggs. wink

The chickens have been doing surprisingly well given the weather(-5F this morning). I get about half brown and half white with a few green and blue ones thrown in. I have a couple of aracanas. Still have the 250 watt heat lamp going. The coop is closed up, but there is just enough cracks in the walls to provide ventilation without letting too much heat escape. But man do they eat when it is cold out.

Cheers

I'm thinking of building my own when the time comes.
