Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I had to order a new computer for my dad, it comes with win7, so far so good, so much better than vista in every way

Quad core?

I ordered them a dual core 3 ghz 64bit, with a ati 512mb gc and 3 gigs of memory, also upgraded their old 17 inch crt monitor to a 19 inch flat screen, also upgraded their speakers to one with a sub, (they didn't like it, but I did) I would love to use it for crunching, but they had problems with their old one with fan noises, also problems with slow Internet (they still have dial up) they are talking about getting high speed so hopefully I can convince them at that point,

I had a tight budget when I was ordering otherwise I would have went to quad

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Unless they are editing video and pictures, that should do them. If its a core 2 duo (64 bit) vs dual core (32 bit), then should chomp through tasks pretty good.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I'm seeing mostly valid results from all my workers, though a few machines (one in particular) are getting a lot of Error results that look exactly like this:

<core_client_version>5.10.45</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
ERROR:: Exit at: .\dock_structure.cc line:401

</stderr_txt>
]]>

(That's the error message shown from the entry at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do after filtering for error results)

Anyone else seeing those? They're all Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 project, and they all go to ERROR after only 0.01 or 0.02 hours of processing. So not really any wasted time, but I wonder if I have a hardware issue.... I might run Prime 95 torture test again if nobody else is seeing this.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I to have started having Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 project WU's start having "Computational Error's", so far I've had three in a row on the same machine. They have been computing fine until today. crying

AMD XP 1800 @ 1533mhz, 512MB Ram, Windows XP Home Edition SP3

I have stopped downloads of Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 WU's on this machine until I see if this is a widespread or maybe just a bad batch of wu's. so far I have had no errors on my other machines.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

If your running vista or win7 and HPFP2, there are issues. I have 4 pages of errors so stopped running it and aborted the rest.

Have you tried a newer version of boinc? Not saying it would fix it but it's worth a try.
Edit: Looks like it a batch problem. Hopefully they resolve it soon.

I will give a new version a try soon and see if that helps anyway.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Ou poi...

I think there has now been one week when days are dark as nights. Not those kind of clear night, more like dark and mist nights....
I do very well on office, have two brightlight lamps on both side of screen (öbaut 20 000 lumen) but start to have really deep broblems on domestic enviroment.
So I just order 250W metal halide lamp's, I think those should fix it silly

Quite odd that those are only something like one quarter of price than brightlight lamps designed for offices...

Right now it feel that this never ends....

Upgraded to the latest yesterday afternoon... still getting lots of those Errors... I guess I'll just leave it alone, it's crunching other projects too and it seems it throws away these errors quickly so it's not wasting much CPU time on them...
