WCG Agent says "Agent paused, see www.wcgrid.org/cause.html". I checked this out, but nothing in it pointed to something I should do.
Any suggestions on what I should do now? Thanks David McCartney |

When I came back to my PC, it was paused, Apparently the executable name was changed and my Norton firewall was asking if i wanted to allow the new executable to access the internet. Caught me off guard because I had already told it to allow the WCG agent to access the internet, but then I noticed a thread about a software upgrade in the Members News forum, so I let it access, and the agent downloaded a new workunit.
----------------------------------------Are you running a firewall like windows XP SP2, zone alarm, norton, etc. and does it appear to be paused after completing a work unit, or is it in the middle of one? EDIT - the thread announcing the software update and the possibility of needing to allow a new executable to access the internet is http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=930 [Edit 2 times, last edit by joatmon at Dec 11, 2004 10:53:39 PM] |

I do run windows xp. This is the first time it has happened in three weeks. It appears that it is at the beginning of a job.
I was on the road for work all week and it looks like it has been processing jobs (per my score) all week long. |

Thanks for the suggestion to check the firewall Norton had a permit and block for the grid's access. I do not know when the block got put on, but right after I removed the block, wcg took off again Thanks David McCartney P.S. Any idea why I am listed as a strange in this forum. I have been a member of wcg since about the 11/22/04? |

Glad it's up and crunching!
----------------------------------------I left a machine on at work, crunching away, but I expect it's dead, waiting for me to update the firewall to allow the updated executable to access the internet. Would have been better for me if the agent update happened Monday instead on the p.s. The forum has preset titles for members based on how many posts you have made. According to lawrencehardin in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=893 By default, mvnForum installs with 4 ranks, Stranger (less than 20 posts), Newbie (less than 50 posts), Member (less than 100 posts), and Advanced Member (more than 100 posts). so post another 17 and become a "New Member" In that thread there were some discussions about the titles given to member rank based on post count, so if you do not like being a "Stranger" that would be a good thread to reply to. EDIT - I see that you are sometimes on with a username of all lower case, sometimes with leading uppercase. The web site login is not case sensitive for username, but the forum is . Unfortunately, the forum software treats you as two different users that way, that's why the post count for "david mccartney" is different than the post count for "David McCartney". ------- \/ thanks MNTechnoGuy , I was close [Edit 2 times, last edit by joatmon at Dec 11, 2004 11:08:35 PM] |

The reason for the block was that the WCG agent was upgraded. The name didn't change, but file size did, and the virus software recognized it as a possible file invasion.
