Not entirely pointless.
The fact is that the point system is currently under review. I'm certain that many of the people who are doing this review are aware of most of the problems and pitfalls in the system as it stands but I feel that the more detail is made available through these discussions (not arguements), the greater the chance of a 'fair' point system being adopted.

A problem must be identified and statistically proven before a remedy can be applied. Nobody knows everything. This has been borne out by the event, which caused this forum thread to be started. I believe that the basis was a likely misunderstanding of the nuance behind this point system combined with a regrettable lack of tact. We all have things which we think we understand fully and don't. The problems come when one only opens ones mouth to change feet. I've been there often, haven't you? Perhaps you're too young, I don't know.

Anyway the point is the more that the points system is analyzed the more we come to understand it. That might just prevent an error from being repeated and even save thge odd future flamefest.
