Re: Unfair amount of credit?

Thanks for your interest Sek.

I do know how to get those stats and use them constantly. smile

The ones I'm looking for are over a month old now and for some reason I can't even get the computer up on my registered devices list, even if I select to show all computers that have returned a result ever.

Mind you, it still adds to my number of installed devices list. smile Currently at 14. LOL.

I'm not sure why I'm even doing this excercise. It's common knowledge that Linux scores lower than Windows but I'm learning by bad example to back up such statements with tangible evidence. Unlike certain opinionated parties. biggrin

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

As a little test, I decided to compile the BOINC client my self. Not only did it cut the filesize is half (400KB from 1.1MB) but it also increased my FX-55's benchmark score to almost 3000 Drystone (2900 from 2700). Now this must show it's something to do with BOINC it's self, as this was compiled on my FX-55 specifically for that machine (it fails to run on my P4, so I just leave the standard client on it).

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

First result is in!!

Any guesses.......a sweepdtake......lottery?

OK: 11.5 Hours for a claimed.... 42 points @ 3.78 Points/Hour.

Previous 6.81 Points/Hour. Guess whhat again?...

3.78 is 55.01% of 6.81

Dang it's just like a catchy tune. Ya get it "in your head" and it just wont go away.

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

1. Take last benchmark u can find in messages log of BOINC, sum Dhry-/Whetstone, divide by 4.8 and multiply by 0.01. thus from your post a bit up ((1179+2090) / 4.8 ) * 0.01 = 6.81 hourly claim-value

2. Put BOINC.exe 1 priority up from normal (presume it to exist in Linux). Run benchmark and do same as under 1....see message tab for new values to use.

Compare 1 and 2 and advise what u get.....just curious.

ciao

PS simplified formula is (Dry+Whet)/480

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

Sek.

I may have to leave that type of thing to someone who understands it more than I.

I'm not familiar enough with the workings of Linux or BOINC to know halfof what you're talking about or where to look for these adjustments. Heck BOINC Manager doesn't have a clue where the link to my browser is and thus is unable to contact 'My Grid' directly. The popup told me to "place the directory path in....." but I'm even more clueless than it is when it comes to that sort of thing. lol.

I know I have to get beyond the "It just works" syndrome but not just right now Im affraid. As for "compiling my own" thingamajig, forget it!! crying

Ok, I got the following:

1. 9.63 hourly claim-value

2. Same as 1. Re-niced BOINC to -5, ran benchmark. Same result. Reniced to -10, same result.

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

Here's the results from 'messages' regarding initial benchmark results...:
666 Floating Point Mips (Whetstone)
1148 Integer Mips (Dhrystone)

As for changing priorities and rerunning...like I said. smile

Cheers smile

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

Second result returned:

11.79 Hours 44 Points claimed and 24 received for a tickt over 2 points per hour.

There won't be a third result, switching back to WinXP immediately. Redmond loves BOINC!

Cheers.

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

ozylynx, can u copy past the quorum detail of that WU, so we can see why it's 24 point.....e.g. if anyone other of the 3 did the job in 3 hours, that one got 8 credits per hour.

Re: Unfair amount of credit?

I'll edit this post with thoe copy/paste after the stats update finishes.

Personally I think under the system we use if a machine is fast enough to do the job in 1/4 or a 1/3 the time it deserves the extra PPH.

That is fair. What isn't fair is that in having it time based it doesn't reflect the work actually done. It's just one of those great looking theories on paper that doesnt work in the real world. I remember reading years ago, a very well thoiught out and logical theory as to why man could never travel faster than 60 mph (100 kph) as it would be impossible to breathe at that speed. biggrin

Cheers.

Reckon the 24 points might have been a Xeon and the 20 points an FX55?? smile
