My 'world community grid agent uses only 25% of my cpu!

Why does the 'world comunity grid agent' only use only 25% of my CPU?

I have a dual core intel 1.8 Ghz processor.
If I click in "I", I see: "curent cpu throttle (see tool on worldcommunity.org to change)".
But does this tool help me and where can I find it?

Firstly, if you are using a Windows machine and the United Devices agent, it will only ever use one of the two cores. This is solved by switching to the BOINC agent if wish to utilise all of your computer's spare processing capacity.

Otherwise, the CPU throttle tool for the UD agent can be found at:

http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe

I suspect that your computer is in fact using the default 60% of one core at the moment, which overall is about 30% of your computer's processing power; however, I've never had a dual-core machine that runs Windows so I'm not entirely sure how dual-CPUs are represented, so maybe I'm wrong.

Re: My 'world community grid agent uses only 25% of my cpu!

Hello s060319,
You are using the UD client for WCG. It is designed to run only one thread. Since you have 2 cores, each capable of running 2 threads, Task Manager shows you running at 25%. I personally do not believe in running more than one thread per core for DC projects, but this is a personal preference. If you want more choice, you can switch to the BOINC client, which lets you run on all your cores with as many threads as they can handle, all depending on how you set your preferences. See http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm and http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

The throttle is a feature that we are adding to the WCG applications. So far it is only enabled for the UD client, though BOINC will have it eventually. We have set the throttle so that a UD thread only runs at 60% CPU utilization by default. You can change this to 100% or to some other value. See http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655

Hope this helps,
Lawrence
