Hello, I'm new here but no to the project. My youngest son died at 22 of
AML blood cancer 2 years and 8 months ago. As I read an article in the local paper I was glad to join the WCG. After installing the program and working for 44 hours continously, the agent paused. I've checked every connection, XP firewall, port forwarding as I have a router and I just came into the fact that Skype which I activated after WCG uses same ports 80 & 443. As the project is really important to me I need your help to configure other ports or any technical advise to make boths programs run in my Pc, I have it running OK in a 2nd PC also in same network but no Skype there. ----------------------------------------Been using Skype for a long long time, but never noticed interference. It only uses those ports 80/443 for brief moments same as the UD Agent. The port i've setup for Skype to use permanently is 59649. U may want to steer your Firewall and router to direct that traffic to the Skype application. Use this site to find out how to configure a router: http://portforward.com/default.htm Try unticking the box in the example and see if Skype still works...mine does. take care

THKS FOR YR REPLY, I CHANGED SKYPE PORT AND IT'S WORKING OK
BUT WCG AGENT STILL PAUSED, THIS IS WHAT I DID: I FORWARDED PORT 443 IN ROUTER FOR POTH TCP AND UDP, ADDED PROGRAM + ADDED PORT 443 FOR UDP IN WINDOWS XP FIREWALL , I RESTARTED MY COMPUTER - WHAT AM I MISSING?  |

Maybe your problem has nothing to do with Skype or your firewall.
What projects have you chosen to participate in? If you have selected only Help Defeat Cancer, then there are a couple of reasons you may be paused. Possibly your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements (you need 750 MB of memory for HDC). But you were crunching before, so this is unlikely. The other possibility is that there isn't currently any HDC work that can be allocated to you. |

hmmm... depends how your computer is connected to the router and if you've got more computers...... U dont' want these 80+443 ports to point to a specific program or computer. In the Windows XP Firewall there should be no reference at all to these 2 ports....Windows XP firewall is anyway a useless piece......it only works on inbound traffic.....anything can leave.
----------------------------------------Did u Try unticking the box in the example and see if Skype still works...mine does. ?U implied that if u unload Skype, UD works, so that is the very likely answer.....as said both are loaded on my machine and work fine together....buzz me on text mssg under my DC sig name. PS, if UD agent is ready to send result back after 44 hours of crunching, there is an action sequence u can follow to force it into a connection routine.....see help under the Agent Paused subject. ciao

hmmm, Didactylos hinted on it and u just said u could not get HDC or HP(f2) to work....does your agent say receiving 3xxx of 3xxx bytes, agent paused? Try selecting FAAH in the profile and then restart UD agent.

HPF2 is on hiatus while the bugs are worked out. HDC has a limited work supply. So, if you want to guarantee work for your computer, you will have to select more projects as Sekerob describes.

THKS FRIENDS !! I TICKED PARTICIPATE IN ALL PROGRAMS AND IT IS NOW WORKING !! I WANTED TO HELP TO DEFEAT CANCER BUT AS LONG AS THE GRID WORKS AND I CAN HELP SCIENCE I DO NOT MIND.
