Need to reinstall UD-clients but not BOINC dito when changing member name?

Hi and hello dear crunchers :)

Browsing search results for "member name" did not give me the answer (unless I missed it).

What I want to do:
- Change my member name (My grid --> My profile)

I have a couple of computers crunching out there, some with the UD client, some with the BOINC client and now I'm not really sure what I need to do. Please go on reading...

Facts:
- The Boinc client is associated with my BOINC account and in some magic way (perhaps the "BOINC Cross-Project Id"?) to my WCG account/member name by registrating itself with a "BOINC Account Key" when communicating to the WCG mothership. Thus, it should be no action needed with the BOINC clients, just let them keep on crunching as nothing has happened. BOINC results will still be reported to my same good old WCG account - but with a new member name. Right?

Q:
- What about th UD clients?

Does the UD client registrate itself (in that case, hidden for the user) with a similar key (Device ID perhaps?) when communicating with WCG mothership? Or is it just using the member name you used when installing the client. I installed them marking the checkbox "already a member". Except for the first UD client installation maybe, I don't remember that.

Do I need to reinstall all of my UD clients or will this work anyway?
I have enough UD clients installed on different places to consider _not_ to change my name if I need to reinstall them all.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Regards...
...Xenu

Re: Need to reinstall UD-clients but not BOINC dito when changing member name?

Hello Xenu666,
I do not know about BOINC and other projects, but I do know that you will have to reinstall UD under your new member name and abandon your old points. I feel sure that you will have to do this for BOINC as well on the WCG.

Re: Need to reinstall UD-clients but not BOINC dito when changing member name?

The unique connection is the email account for the roll-up which has the again unique x-project BOINC account key associated. Name change should go flawless (but have read of cases with account lock out at WCG when doing)

ciao

PS: Here a link on full explanation of BOINC x-project ID and the role of the e-mail account: Cross-Project Identifier
