I'm glad something is working. Which subdirectory had the boinc.msi files in it? I am wondering if part of the problem was some peculiarity involving the path. Lawrence |

Ah, I see. You only have one problem on your home PC - it can't find the file to remove the previous version of BOINC, either because it is inaccessible, lost, corrupt or mislaid, or you previously installed an unofficial or alpha build.
When Windows Installer is corrupted, life gets very complicated. Again, I strongly urge you to reinstall Windows. Failing that, there are specialist tools that will delete all traces of a previous installation. Look for msizap. I'm not going to give further details because this is a tool that can turn your computer into smoking slag in seconds. Handle with care, and don't attempt anything unless you are 100% sure you know what you're doing. Good luck. |

I'm going to hold off reinstalling windows until I really have to, then comes the big delete button! And I'm happy with my computer to not smoke for now I only touch things I know I can fix.
But the Boinc installing problem (cannot find Boinc.msi) occured at both home and uni. Whereas the uninstall Boinc problem only occured at home. (Just as a point of interest, I successfully installed my old version of Boinc at uni a long while back when I first installed it at home = still skeptical about the latest version, but that's a story for another day) This is where I found the Boinc.msi files: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{...} There are two of them, with lots of random characters between { }. Just like Temp Internet Files. But when I was trying to install yesterday, there was an additional file in a temp file somewhere (guessing it was a result of installation process). None of them worked. Although I want the latest Boinc, I'm happy to settle for the UD at the moment while it's working (I'm really happy with it now!) Cheers Rowan |
