Hi,
How can we actually find out what if any benefits have arisen from this World Grid project? There is a lot of statistics around, but I would like to know how the World Grid has benefitted research (not just statistics, but real benefits). Can anyone help? I am happy to donate my dual core 3.4GHZ if I know how I am helping the world (rather than just adding to statistics). |

To do that, you need to keep up to date with the project news.
For example, FAAH have just ordered samples of 40 promising compounds for further analysis. We made that possible. HPF are about to publish. You will be able to read the papers, but unless you're a specialist in molecular biology, don't expect to understand more than one word in ten... there should be a summary, though. However, mostly there is a long gap between what we do here and the final results. You need patience, but those of us here for the long-haul do get to see the results eventually. |

More on the hompage about this would be great. Statistics about computational grunt generally only attract the technically literate and technically interested. The average layperson would be more interested in 40 compounds being ordered for testing, how many millions have been saved in research, projects that occured mostly if not entirely because of WGC, peer reviewed papers published in journals, etc.
I would like to see more about tangible benefits on he WGC site. |

GEORGE, u really need to put the turbo talk to the side and write out the words like praps (perhaps), hughmans (humans), sumwhere (somewhere), witch (which) or substitude words like veer ('leaning towards' or 'sided' i suppose)......trouble enough when native inglise wright. Me foreigner non capice.
----------------------------------------McLeod, i agree...... the 40 compound message was in a regular thread and not in the 'member news' section......the 'why we are here' news and the 'pulse of the projects' like posts are few and far between. The 'too busy' comment has come too often..... >220,000 members, many running multiple device and not being able to give periodic, weekly / by weekly updates on the state of the community and it's progress would not cost more than ** an hour a week. Most dont want to Google to find out what's going on for and with WCG! ** oops is it 'than' or 'then' ![]()

Sekerob,
----------------------------------------"than" is correct. "bi-weekly" or "biweekly" would be correct. ![]() Cheers Sgt.Joe

What the *$&# are you running? 1100 posts and veteran cruncher in a year? What do you have a server farm in the basement or something?
Yes, more front page information on tangible information, not buried in posts, so busy laypeople like me who do this on the side (the bulk of the members?) can easily see what's going on. Even a statistic on peer reviewed papers published, or reminder that some drugs did not need to be tested in the lab and so on, it's all good information and will encourage people to continue to contribute to this worthwhile project. It has to be prominent though, perhaps almost like a newspaper, with the important headline grabbing news on the front page, not in the columns. I am only new to this, so I am just throwing thoughts up in the air, but it's a suggestion. Can someone here with some more time and knowledge of this project take this up? |

Results are only just beginning to filter through. I'm sure WCG will experiment with the best way of presenting them - to the volunteers as well as to the public at large, via the media.
Anyone can make lots of posts - it means little. Quality in posts, now that's a challenge. The "Cruncher" title merely reflects the number of posts, and is unrelated to crunching activities. |

Hello Ian McLeod,
You can look at http://www.nyu.edu/fas/biology/faculty/bonneau/ to follow the progress of the paper being written for HPF1 (now completed). You can download the PDF of the draft under the 'Rosetta de novo Structure Prediction ' section. Otherwise there are just various posts and newsletters, all linked to from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4925#51997 We just do not have a list of publications yet. We will have to run a number of projects to build up a backlist. Lawrence |

McLeod,
----------------------------------------As eluded, any post counts towards the total, whether waffle, social call, helpful, sharing or with an agenda. On the second last, there happens to have been a discussion item at the last BOINC conference.....granting extra points for valued posts . The idea is not entirely off.....gives a chance to express whether u e.g. would appreciate / agree with the Community Advisor, Moderation, or Member contribution et al.......saw the functionality on a few support fora...... one for the Forum Feature Wishlist thread.ciao wow...post 1160....just a baby compared to a few others ;>) http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...rPostCount&order=DESC
