Could we have regular updates? Even just every 2 weeks or so.
ie 155000 units produced. 105000 units in progress. 275000 units completed. 1000000 units left to process. or 72% complete of samples to date... etc etc I dont see alot of projects with regular updates which is a shame because its returns something to the community. Im looking forward to the next update about this great project. |

Hello Impx,
I am also interested in hearing about developments. But there is a misconception that I should correct. The tissue archive is effectively limitless [alas for suffering humanity], so a percentage of a definite number of tissue samples does not exist. Rather, the research is aimed at identifying and characterizing different types of cancers. The really important work is being done in the minds of the researchers, using the data that we are supplying and combining that with the medical histories of the patients that the samples were drawn from. This is one of the suggestions on the table for when the statistics pages are reworked. I don't know if or how the idea will be implemented, but I'm hoping some overall indicator will be added to each project.

Thanks to the outstanding technical team at IBM the Help Defeat Cancer project is unfolding as planned. When the project was first launched in July the biggest challenge for our research team at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) was how to keep generating enough work units to keep up with the rate at which they were being processed. We are constantly performing quality control assessment on the results that are sent back from World Community Grid and have been quite pleased with the results so far. In a few weeks we will be varying some of the experimental conditions used for analyzing the cancer specimens and comparing those results with those obtained using the first set of conditions in order to optimize the sensitivity of the calculations.

Many thanks for the update! This is appreciated!
----------------------------------------![]() It would be great if we could have updates on a more regular basis. But of course the project scientists are mostly pretty busy. I understand that. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by depriens at Sep 12, 2006 7:14:05 PM] |

I appreciate the details you guys/girls give. Thanks for all feedback.
I noticed recently on SIMAP they introduce a batch monitor. As can be seen here. http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/batchmonitor.php This is such a great idea and something similar could be great for HDC to provide feedback to its users. Im not saying copy it exactly but a similar details page would be awesome for all users to have some visibility on the project. I also notice the work units are alot more constant. Thanks for the great work. :) |

Perfect timing -- next week a podcast interview will be released and posted
to the WCG webiste. In addition, graphs have been prepared to indicate computation run times and number of results received. These graphics will be updated biweekly. This information will reside on one of the websites at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) but there will be a link on the WCG website. Please watch for the announcement sometime next week. We have been performing regular, quality control operations to examine the integrity of returned results and working with the technical team at IBM to prepare for the next phase of experiments which will vary the operating parameters of the filter analysis to characterize the protein expression patterns at multiple resolutions. This next phase of experiments will only be initiated after all work units and results from the first stage of the project have been returned to the research team at CINJ. |
