Perfect timing -- next week a podcast interview will be released and posted to the WCG webiste. In addition, graphs have been prepared to indicate computation run times and number of results received. These graphics will be updated biweekly. This information will reside on one of the websites at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) but there will be a link on the WCG website. Please watch for the announcement sometime next week. We have been performing regular, quality control operations to examine the integrity of returned results and working with the technical team at IBM to prepare for the next phase of experiments which will vary the operating parameters of the filter analysis to characterize the protein expression patterns at multiple resolutions. This next phase of experiments will only be initiated after all work units and results from the first stage of the project have been returned to the research team at CINJ. approximately when will the first phase be completed? |

i know tom, i stole it from you!
i posted it hoping dr. foran would see it, since 1/2 of his posts are here. but the giants are playing the falcons 2nd quarter and it's a scoreless tie, so he might be otherwise occupied. |

In addition to the steady progress that has been made imaging and analyzing specimens and processing work units, our team is currently investigating the use of a set of advanced image processing tools that we recently developed to quickly and reliably detect and delineate tumorous and non-tumorous sub-regions throughout the tissue discs. We are currently using these technologies in conjunction with the library of filter responses that have been generated from the “Help Defeat Cancer” project so far to investigate their potential use in cellular and sub-cellular localization of immunostains.

Just wondering if there are any further updates?
This seems to me to be one of the most benefical projects around is it possible to get weekly/fortnightly updates or even a regular monthly update? 1 or 2 posts a month will go a long way with the community. It doesnt always have to be science updates it can also just be a status report or something to do with the project in general. Looking forward to any details you can throw our way. Thanks for all the hard work also I cant begin to imagine the admin/sci side you must all deal with. Im just happy I can contribute in my own way. |

From a quantitative perspective, this very moment, we're passing 2.5 million Work Units completed. Here a link u can bookmark that updated the statistics every 6 hours: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=hdc
----------------------------------------We're still going at an average of 20,000 Work Units per day, though presently as the WU's are very heavy compared to earlier batches. That's obvious, where previous all 20,000 daily lab output were done in 10 CPU years and sometimes clients got a 'no work available' message, now 17,000 take almost 13 CPU years to process. Not all machines can handle it as u know, hence. As to a percent of total work, there is no telling at the moment.... different labs have added batches, so for now it seems open ended. Will get back if a more precise time frame can be advised. On a note: This program builds a reference library, which conceptually is the same as what SIMAP did. They went on hold status with all available work done, but each beginning of the month, they get new batches to process to bring the library up to latest. They now describe themselves as a "Periodic Project". Who knows will this to happen for HDC as well as more cancer slides with associated case history is being added to the knowledge base. Cheers

Hi Sekerob,
I've noticed I'm getting many more HDC work units now compared to a few weeks ago. Presumably, this is a result of the heavier work units you mentioned. Only one of my machines can crunch for this project. Until recently I would expect one HDC and then typically 4 or 5 FAAH or HPF2 units. During the last week, however, it's probably more like 3:1 or 4:1 in favour of HDC. David. |

Good to see that there is some work in stock....not going to run dry during the weekend.
----------------------------------------Checked the homepage of Dr. Foran. Essentially their daily plots are mirroring what we plot here, but no completion indicators.

Just to keep u guys in the loop.... Dr. Foran aka 'djf' has been requested by the WCG leadership to refresh the information on his website. Also we received just now a load more work, and as said, we've had work inserted from other labs that can ride on the bandwagon like SEWELL1A.
----------------------------------------If u use FireFox 2.0, there's a 'Notify' add-in. Add the Bookmark http://pleiad.umdnj.edu/IBM/ to the table and u get an automatic message of change. As of this writing, we've done 1,260 CPU years and 2,527 million Work Units. cheers
