Recent experiments that our team conducted to determine the capacity of our algorithms to automatically distinguish between the expression patterns of normal and cancerous tissues based upon hierarchical clustering of the library of filter responses from the Help Defeat Cancer project were successful. We are encouraged by these results and are using statistical optimization methods to further refine the algorithms.

Thanks for the update!

Passed the 3 Million Completed Work Units sometime on Saturday Dec, 09, 2006 with 1600 CPU years involved.
----------------------------------------To be honest, I think we can't finish this project soon enough, so that the scientists can get to work and do the result analysis and spread the knowledge around the world. When, maybe the project scientists can give an indication. thx

thanks to bbover3 for refreshing me on this one: http://pleiad.umdnj.edu/IBM/ Bookmark this link to the Help Defeat Cancer Project site where updates are posted.
----------------------------------------Latest update from The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Jan. 10, 2007. Feasibility studies which have recently moved from breast cancer to cancer of the colon, head and neck have consistently shown the utility and reproducibility of using spectral and spatial signatures generated through the "Help Defeat Cancer" project to classify expression patterns in tissue microarrays. We will continue to expand the scale of these studies and have begun to undertake a set of systematic man-machine comparative performance studies. cheers

Feb 1, 2007. Using the library of expression signatures generated through the "Help Defeat Cancer" project, the research team at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey has begun to develop and evaluate a prototype system for performing data-mining and staging disease progression. see here greets |

new update!! -> see here
or read this quote: Feb 27, 2007. Certain proteins must be localized to specific sub-cellular compartments in order to be considered clinically relevant. Using the pattern recognition algorithms that our team is developing as part of our NIH-funded project (5R01EB003587-02), a computer-based prototype is being evaluated for its capacity to automatically characterize nuclear, cytoplasmic, and membrane localization of protein expression. As part of the "Help Defeat Cancer" project this approach has already been shown to provide reliable, objective analysis when used to evaluate imaged tissues from a 186 breast cancer patients and additional studies are underway. greets |

@Sekerob:
why did the completition % go down to 26.46%, it used to be around 85%. Did we enter a new phase? |
