I have a couple of beta units running, but the "Show Graphics" button remains firmly grayed out.
Restarting BOINC Manager had no effect. |

When I selected the work unit in Task, the Show Graphic button popped into focus and worked.

Did,
As lawrence mentioned you have to select the workunit to have the show graphics button appear. This is so that if someone has multiple processes running, you can select which graphics you would like to see. Hope that helps. -Uplinger |

Is this a service install of the BOINC client? If so then you will not get graphics. Just a trade off that is listed when installing it. That is the only other time I have seen that happen. Thanks for the screen shot :) those are always good to set me straight :)

I had one computer set up as a service, the other not - just precisely in order to test such things. However, I seem to have converted both to services last time I upgraded. Mea culpa. I do recall talk on boinc_dev about letting the service install provide graphics. Did anything come of that? Technically, I can't see why it shouldn't be possible. OTOH, the BOINC graphics system is notoriously weird and complicated - all those processes to handle. |

I just checked, the version 5.4.11 from boinc has a disclaimer stating graphics will not work in screen saver mode or in show graphics as a service install. I have not heard anything about service installs on the new version having that capability. But I'm sure this will be a question we get a few times... :)

It is a well known or at least ever repeating issue.
I'm not using service installation on any of my hosts so can't check but try this (found on real BOINC forum): I have solution for problem with showing graphics in BOINC. The only thing you have to do is: 1. Open "Computer Management" (Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Maintenace") 2. Open "Services and applications" and select "Services". 3. Find service called "BOINC", double click on it and open the second tab called "Login". 4. Set login from "This account:" to "Local system account" and click "OK" to save chcanges. And that's it! Restart service or computer and graphics will show now! |

I forgot about this. Thanks, Hon_za! Here is the wiki entry I have listed in the Start Here 'Information about BOINC' thread: http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/?title=Enabling_The_...Service_Type_Installation |
