I have changed the number of workunits sent per request to 10 (it was previously 5) . I will have to watch this number becuase this is one of the limits that prevents 'cyclers' from doing too much damage. This should give Sekerob more workunits.
----------------------------------------I have also deployed an update which will allow David Bond to fully utilize his computer. David - if you have any other troubles can you send an email to support@worldcommunitygrid.org and let us know? thanks, Kevin [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Aug 25, 2006 5:21:56 PM] |

Thanks, the system has already pulled a new set of work. We'll see how things go over the weekend, but it looks good at the moment.

What?! That thing reaches 120 results just after running for a few hours?!?! That's the better stuff!

Something appears to still be wrong here. When the system started to submit the last set of work items I began receiving messages like:
Fri 25 Aug 2006 04:18:30 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Task faah0768_bdb422_mx1hhp_dry_02_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file Fri 25 Aug 2006 04:18:30 PM EDT|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. Fri 25 Aug 2006 04:18:30 PM EDT||Rescheduling CPU: application exited Fri 25 Aug 2006 04:18:30 PM EDT||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. Fri 25 Aug 2006 04:18:30 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Finished download of file faah0768_bdb485_mx1hhp_dry_01_bdb485_mx1hhp_dry_01.gpf Given that it was happening quite repeatedly I did an update and then a reset to the project. It has now grabbed another set of work items. Any opinions on whether I should leave this running over the weekend or just shut it down? I'm not sure if the next set will do the same thing if it will result in any issues on the other end or not. Thanks |

David Bonds, there are about 20 posts on this forum with "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" (search with quotation marks). I've had one a few days ago and it went away as the server was off-line, but the meaning of the message is variable.
----------------------------------------& Kevin, thanx for the prompt amend, first batch was 7, second batch was 10.....the present HDC's are short, that's how i like them...no suspense and need for too much ![]() ciao

Yep, and the meaning of the message can be inocuous too. I've see it on a number of occasions when BOINC restarts after my laptop comes out of hibernation. Different situations may well have different meanings too.
----------------------------------------David, that must be a sweet machine to run thru 120 results a day! Glad you're crunching here with WCG! While you've been crunching with us a while, a machine like that will light the afterburners on your stats! |

Referring the other post where seemingly between Friday afternoon and Monday the BOINC server software was reverted from 507 to 505, i just got a fresh batch of work....2 WU's.....did the change of server loose the setting of batches to 10 to go south? Handed in 27 WU's since the amended setting Friday afternoon, of which 12 sit in Pending Validation at present.

Whatever the cause of the "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" messages was, they ceased after I performed the reset on Fri. It rolled off 20-30 of them in a row just before that.
I'm just watching the jobs roll by now and trying to make sure the o/s scheduler is keeping the work distributed appropriately - which is my primary curiosity here. As for the stats I've got to do some reading to see how to interpret them, I'm showing 232 uploads for today but the stats page only shows 45 results returned today. Whatever the case I'm getting the data I wanted in regards to the O/S ![]() |

Some of the stats pages are updated only every 6 hours. A result must be validated against 2 other results before it adds to the stats on some pages. The only page that shows up to the minute results is the Results Status pages(s) off of the Device Manager link on your My Grid page. This article http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/validation.cfm explains the "quorum of 3".
