unsuccessful re-install of UD w/ a blank 'close' window and blank/invisible radio button

crying I have tried 're-intall'/register-RE of wcgrid_Autodock on my [3rd] laptop and had to stop process-UD.exe/remove WCG from control panel/ D/L both installs and executed many times w/ diff. procedures and only gotten the same result ! A blank window opens w/ 2 X's and a blank ?close? radio button ! no search of 'Help' helps , and the folder only has the 470kB exe , a help , and 2 other files [unlike my other machines w/ every freakin' UD_nnnnn and .BMP and .MAP's (do I really have to keep these on my HD?) ]

ps: I know ... too little info, too many complaints/questions , but add me to all the people/casualties that haven't been 'Crunchin' for days now

shock Re: unsuccessful re-install of UD w/ a blank 'close' window and blank/invisible radio button

Hi,

First, take a cup of soothing, decaf tea, Rooibos from South Africa, then maybe, if u edit your post and write it out in plain English, that even none-nerd/geeks can understand, let alone people not having a degree in stenographic mobo English, we might understand what u are writing but till then.....

Uninstall UD, whatever OS u r on
Boot
Check if program dir is empty and delete it.
Run Chkdsk in DOS window
Run Defrag
Download a fresh copy of the UD agent install file.
Re-install UD

Make sure u have admin rights when doing this

Not seeing radio buttons (each button is a little gif file) or most of the files missing compared to your other machine smells like (serious) HD issues, which u cant blame WCG for, nor is likely to have stopped many from not being able to crunch i.e. look in mirror and point at person u see in the reflection first.

ciao

PS who are those people that are not crunching for days yet have not put a help post here....no clairvoyance abilities

PPS, your sig is also corrupt....does not show on my computer....thus could there be more missing, or do i have to fix my computer.....nai, my own sig works.

PPPS, comments like u planted elsewhere on this forum wont get u a friendly approach:
O/S to install a RAM-DRV! ] confused
ps : once per sec disk light lit is absolutely normal BUT generating excess heat is not !
pss : most worthless thread to an answer to my question is ---> http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...?thread=7557&offset=0

psss: sorry, but I searched the help section mins. infamatum and got pizz'd

Re: unsuccessful re-install of UD w/ a blank 'close' window and blank/invisible radio button

Blank windows during installation of UD client are normally caused by anti-virus programs such as McAfee version 8 or just possibly by the DEP bit being enabled (since the UD installation program was written before there was a DEP bit).

This happened quite a few times in late 2004 and early 2005.

Re: unsuccessful re-install of UD w/ a blank 'close' window and blank/invisible radio button

UNiRAC, have u considered that your WOS might be corrupt, or a hardware issue? U could take a copy from another machine as in C:\Programmes\..... and put it in the installed directory, then start it up from explorer. Dont think there are any critical registry key that stop u. Worst that could happen is, and it will anyway after a re-install of UD agent, that u will have to re-register the device (make sure to take the 'existing member' option).

cheers
