I'm running a slightly overclocked E6700 (@2.9 GHz) and i'm getting about 25 results a day from it (genome comparison has small work units though).
----------------------------------------Could probably overclock a bit more... ![]() |

I've been looking for a while for a discussion like the one in this thread, which could help crunchers decide on which machinery to buy when they next upgrade ...
However, just what stats to use to pick the best cruncher seems rather complex: * "Results/day" (or CPU time/result) is only OK if quoted for just 1 project over many WUs, since different projects have very different WU times, and from observing faah WUs, they seem to come in runs of longer and shorter ones. * "Points/day" or "points/hr" would eliminate the differences between projects' average WU times, but according to one of the Wikis or FAQs, points are awarded by what our computers claim (with BOINC it's the median claim made by the 3 crunchers of the given WU), so there's a certain amount of conflict of interest here! * The easiest way to get averages is to take the stats from the WCG "My Grid" page. However, averages there include effects of your down-time, % of CPU time devoted to crunching, results obtained before you upgraded your computer, etc, etc! * Crunchers running BOINC could quote the "CPU Benchmarks" that BOINC does (Click on "Run CPU Benchmarks" in "Advanced" menu, observe results in "Messages" tab). Perhaps we need a database of our stats, from which we can prepare stats on the stats. FWIW, my stats are: * AMD 64 4200 dual-core overclocked 10% to 2400MHz * BOINC: 2227 floating pt MIPS, 4201 integer MIPS * 3477 points/day; 88 points/CPU-hr (per CPU) * About 5hr:20min CPU time per faah WU (per CPU, ie about 9 WUs/day) * I run 110% CPU time, 24/7, but grab CPU time for other tasks, plus downtime. Stats also include 1 month of 6 with a 1-core CPU, - Richard, Sydney, Australia. Quad-cores haven't got here yet ![]() |

Heya
Gawd y'all!!! My little AMD Duron 1.6GHz abacus is unworthy. But it still crunches, and I'm not getting killed by the power company! So, for now, I'll stay small! ![]() |

I have a Celery D 346 crunching 52.58 Points Per Hour of Run Time and 268.33 Points Per Calendar Day. Your AMD Duron isn't that bad. Not too long ago I have a Duron@900MHz and now have a Coppermine@933MHz

Just a few more months and I'll be off to college. I want a good WCG crunching machine. Avg. Points Per Hour of Run Time is the most relevant stats indicating power of CPU IMO (p/day does not take into account PC downtime). Can anyone give stats in format like
CPU: Celery D 346 Points Per Hour of Run Time: 52.58 |

Can anyone give stats in format like CPU: Celery D 346 Points Per Hour of Run Time: 52.58 Well I pale in comparison to most of these guys, but I have: CPU: Core 2 Duo 3.7Ghz Points per hours of Run time: about 85 About 3 results/1430 points a day (BOINC only running when idle). Edit: Throttle setting restricting BOINC to 80% usage (don't want to overheat my baby). [Edit 5 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 5, 2007 6:37:57 PM] |
