Stuck at 0%

I came into work today, and my computer was stuck at 0% progress, but it had been executing for 50+ hours. I did an end process on the ud_######.exe process, and it gave me a new project to work on, but I'm having the same problem in this one. Anything I can do to fix this?

fourevermi,

What type of workunit are you working on? Is it FAAH, HDC1, or HPF2? Also, is there a process called wcg_*.exe running?

Re: Stuck at 0%

I have the same problem. I thought it was just taking a while to show progress, but after running all weekend, the progress is still 0%

I am doing the FAAH work, and running a Dell Precision 650 with Dual Xeon 3.0 GHz processors and 1Gig RAM & Windows XP Pro

I have a process running in process list called. WCGrid_AutoDock.exe ud_8401401.exe

I didn't see a way to get a new workunit or anything through the agent loaded in my desktop.

you can dump the WU by going into task manager, click on the process tab, and end the one labeled "ud_XXXXXX.exe"

fourevermi/carock, before killing the process it would be great if you could provide some information so we can track down whatever the problem is. Can you please provide your device IDs so we can track down the problem workunits? You can find your device ID by clicking on the checkbox button on the agent.

Also, are you certain you didn't have another process taking up a majority of your CPU time? How much CPU time has the wcg_*.exe process taken?

* Open task manager
* click on the Processes tab.
* View->Select Columns
* Check 'CPU Usage' and 'CPU Time'

See how much CPU Time the 'wcg_*.exe' process has used so far. If it's not close to what the UD Agent claims, something else has been taking up your CPU time (the UD agent reports wall clock time, not CPU time).

Hi Rick,

I have two problematic WUs of which both cannot pass the 35% after 6 hours of work (50% cpu time is used in a P4 3.0 PC for each) i.e. they go to 33.6% and after 1 hour they go back to 32%. They just swing and stuck between 32 and 33.x % after hour and hours of work. I then stop the WU and re-start, they start up at 0% (Task Run Time showing 15min). I don't have the patience to play with them. You may wish to investigate. They device IDs are 423335 and 401959. Thanks. biggrin

Re: Stuck at 0%

This is normal behaviour for a FAAH work unit. It is just taking more effort to crunch than was estimated - nothing to worry about. In the future, just let these work units continue, and they will get past the difficult spot in a few hours.

Not all work units are the same size. A few will take a very long time to complete.

Re: Stuck at 0%

I just got another one stuck at 33% and I'll track it for how long to pass this point. Up till now, 5 hours had gone.

Re: Stuck at 0%

Here's a list of FAAH variations i posted somewhere else. Added here Type 6 i saw last week.....know its 5% or lower, but staring gives me headaches, so don't watch it too much.
Type 1. Saves AFTER 16.66 , 33.33 , 50.00 , 66.66, 83.33, 100.00 (6 checkpoints / segments)
Type 2. Saves AFTER 33.33 , 66.66, 100.00 (3 checkpoints / segments)
Type 3. Saves AFTER 50.00 , 100.00 (2 checkpoints / segments)
Type 4. Saves ONLY when 100% complete! (Cant be interrupted at all)
Type 5. Saves AFTER first 6.25% and subsequent multiples there off (16 checkpoints / segments)
Type 6. Saves AFTER first <=5.0% and subsequent multiples there off (20 or more checkpoints / segments)
Type 7. Saves AFTER first 25.0% and subsequent multiples there off (4 checkpoints / segments)
Type 8. Saves AFTER first 20.0% and subsequent multiples there off (5 checkpoints / segments)

Watch (dont stare down) the CPU clock rather than Wall-clock. The Type 2 take 7.5 CPU hours on my 2.53 Ghz....

The first time the red-dotted line appears in the C-Best Docking Energy graph tells u what type u'r dealing with. Long as there only a green solid line, no segment checkpoint to save has been reached. Here an example of Type 1, which just started on it's second segment.

Read at the BOINC forum that BBC Climate Prediction WU's take 4 months!!!!

Added: Did not stop there, Type 7 identified with 25% segments

....and if U R really in a need for a break, from crunching, seek out DavidHobbs/Lawrence Hardin's FAQ post with links on Hibernation ;>)

ciao
