I wanted to see what the cancer project was like so I modified my project list to eliminate the AIDS project and turned on the HCD project.
----------------------------------------WHen it tried to download, it keeps going into a pause after trying to download 3478 bytes from WGC. Is there a problem?
Lets get off the couch, Potato Heads, and join the Idaho team.

Check the minimum requirements. HDC requires 750MB of memory.

Thanks!
----------------------------------------I upgraded my machine to 1 Gigabytes of memory. Now I can run Cancer units. Thanks again, Didactylos.

Hi UNiRAC,
See HPF2 work placed temporarily on hold: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8062 The bug in HPF2 changes whenever debug code is added to the program. About 85% of the HPF2 work units validate withgout problems. But add even one line and some work units that run fine stop working while other units that always error out start validating. So the staff are doing a lot of debug. Meanwhile, we are setting up a BOINC Beta test group. ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8214 ) So far, we have not released any debug versions of HPF2 to this group. So right now, the only projects to run are FAAH and HDC. How disappointing. I left WCG awhile ago to go to grid.org so I can work on cancer projects. After receiving the news letter about cancer projects at WCG I came back only to learn that I cant run any because my memory is only 512. Too bad you couldn't have made it so people without as much memory can run them too.

If we only could.
I'm afraid computing requirements for grid projects will just keep getting bigger. Things that needed a grid to compute a few years ago can be computed on a supercomputer in half an hour now. The goalposts are always moving, but there are some large, intractable problems out there that are only just becoming possible to tackle as computing technology progresses. Remember, the tireless staff at WCG reduced the memory usage from 1.2 gigabytes to a peak of about 500 megabytes. That's less than half! The 750 megabyte requirement is designed to leave some memory free for normal computer use. You could go back to grid.org, but I understand they are busy recrunching HPF1, which is well and truly finished. Personally, I don't understand why they would do anything so crazy. If WCG tried something like that, they wouldn't get far - there are all sorts of safeguards, not to mention the ever-vigilant members and Community Advisors. Besides, WCG have plenty of work to be doing, and more projects on the way. |

I'll carry this to our team section, that works there and see if they move here. At our own teams forum of course, as i would not want to be accused of poaching at the Grid.org forum.....they're still # 4 or 5 there ingesting their own manure as i read previous post. This HPF1 regurgitation on top of same with cancer, which is why i left there is baffling, beyond all ethics, if true.

Lawrence THx L.H. for the sanity check... now if y'all can help us 'TUNE' our machines to use the cheapest RAM, like 1GIG thumb drives at 1/4 the cost of DDR... that would be a nice forum [ I gave up on that a year ago-people don't understand the differance between milli, micro, and NANO second access] LoL pss: can we get our TEAM logo/.img/link back ? insteade of a 'broken-link' ICON.... gives me 'Invisable-Man' syndrome lol

Hi UNiRAC,
Sekerob has a post about the broken links here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8253#66162 |
