I would really appreciate if number of devices will be at least close to real number of working devices. In my case I have registered 7 but for computing I use only 2. Can you delete those devices which didnt sent back anything for last x days? I understand that it is good for you to show over 700 hundred thousands united devices but it is not correct information... But anyway thank you for your work. Finally I have found work for my computers..

I don't know where the number of devices on the web site comes from, but the problem with defunct devices showing up on your profile has been an issue for quite a while. For auditing purposes you can't change the number of devices in the WCG database. If anyone ever needs to know which devices were involved with a given work unit, WCG would need that information. But you should be able to tailor what is shown in your profile. I don't think that can be fixed easily with the current software which is one of many reasons why a lot of members here are pushing for an upgrade to the existing forum software - see Fourm upgrade thread.

I understand that it is good for you to show over 700 hundred thousands united devices but it is not correct information... But anyway thank you for your work. Finally I have found work for my computers.. The forum software and the My Grid / Statistical information are 2 separate projects, the forum software bastardised for various reasons like it being hosted in 2 places and facilitate a one time sign in whether arriving at My Grid or at the Forum. It's asking patience like it works as e.g. it lets me see US side posts at times greatly delayed or the index page not showing the last posts (There's one post i made yesterday and it still not showing on the index page). The devices is a different kettle of fish. The wish to only show active or recently active devices is long standing as is the ability of merging devices e.g. if a computer is reinstalled creating a new ID. With BOINC and a little handy-work it can be avoided. I still show historically the same as I ever had at the same time. Personally, i could not care less whether a real recent average active or historical is shown, something inhereted from (most will know) U know who UD actually bragging in their latter days of 3.5 million devices. I got like total of 14 showing but could not afford the e-bill. That said, devices are only counted if they really returned a work unit, not just downloaded, so historically everyone can see what each produced. A little structured re-naming applied and it's easy to see which relate to what machine. Plus, the My Grid, Device Statistics in 'current' view only shows recent devices. Anyway, WCG is planning and plodding on the topic of devices. Phasing out UD surely will have added its work planning complications and more, so we'll have to wait and see. Maybe one of the early joining CA's may want to recount, but a greater plan exists. WCG is just not telling all to avoid disappointments if things fall thru.

13. More smilies to choose from? (Diana G.)This would definitely be nice, but in the meantime check out Smileypad. This will let you rip smileys from other places an use them in your posts. You can organize them in theme libraries you create (happy, sad, steamed, scary, party, etc). Of course it's not so convenient if you're always flitting from one computer to another. A good place to start ripping smileys is Smiley Arena. You can spend days there and not see all the smileys they have. If you need a place to host your smileys (places with free smileys don't always have a lot of bandwidth or super reliable servers) try these free web sites 1. Geocities - now owned by Yahoo 2. Tripod - now apparently part of Lycos 3. Webstarts They each have their own interface but it's pretty intuitive. If you need any help PM me - oops, forgot, we can't do that here can we? Ok, shoot me an email - at least some of us aren't afraid to show our email address to other members. Edit - forgot link to smileypad Edit - I can understand that people who only use one email address might not want it on display, but that's what disposable email addresses are for. Not that I'm interested in plugging Yahoo, but if you get their lowest level paid account, you can create an indefinite number of addresses on the fly and any responses all come to the same inbox you normally use. ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Oct 15, 2007 5:15:13 PM] |
