Old Thingy
I've had a "fun" day. I had to R+R the drive in one computer. The drive had developed a bad attiude. I did not have the software to mark it as "bad", so I decided it was "cheaper" to replace the drive. (Guess that's what you do when you have more money than time ) That shot about 4 hours. At least I was able to move the operating system to the new drive.Whew! Dodged that bullet!...... .......anyone need a "slightly used" 40G hard drive? ![]() Have a Fun Day! |

The delays in getting credit when using BOINC has trashed my daily stats. Yes, I know it will eventually even out, but I'm now running more CPU hours than ever, but my results graph is stuck at half of my prior output.

It'll catch up, LH. Just keep sending back work to build a backlog and soon your daily points will be bigger than they could ever be with the ud agent. If you really want to see bigger numbers, run nothing but AIDS on your machines. You'll not get big result numbers but your points will be much higher after a few days of buildup. This is what the guys @ XS are doing, among others.

Thanks, John.
----------------------------------------Do you have any "HT" cpu's? I have debated if there is any gain by allowing it to run two threads verses one. I know that someone did benchmarking on UD/Cancer and found that the overhead to manage two work units actually resulted in slightly slower total progress. But the BOINC benchmark on one verses two gave me: One CPU: 1498 FP MIPS 2104 INT MIPS Two CPU: 1269 FP MIPS - per CPU 1568 INT MIPS - per CPU So, if I am reading this right, the total benchmark for the HT processor is 2x1269 and 2x1568, which gives larger numbers than the single CPU setting. So, for now, I am allowing it to run two threads. What have you heard concerning BOINC settings on "Hyper-Thread" processors? ![]() |
