OK, Someone is going to say it sooner or later

Quorum of 9? In my Results Status the HDC unit I've received (B00000_ 0021_ CTMA3A1-12-1-4) has been dispatched to 7 that now have In Progress status and there are 2 more iterations with status Waiting to Be Sent (or similar wording). Is that for real.... quorum of 9?

No problem if it is 9. Just wondering.

P.S. Ok, the 2 waiting to be sent are now In Progress also, that's a total of 9 In Progress

Re: OK, Someone is going to say it sooner or later

The first 100 workunits are set up with a 1 day deadline and high redundency. We want to get some data back 'from the wild' as quick as possible so that we can see if all is working as it should.

The quorum is actually still 3 - these first ones just have a higher redundency.

Once we get past those first 100 workunits then processing reverts to the normal rules (3 to go out and a 1 week deadline).

And already we have 3781 units down at midday today 7.20.06

Dag, just crunch one under UD Agent....eyecandy, plus a throttle value hard in the face ;>)

Re: OK, Someone is going to say it sooner or later

Yes, the first 100 WUs with the 9 iterations flew by fast. Nearly all of that type that I can see in my Results Status have validated on all 9 hosts. I see only 1 host that returned Error and I suspect that 1 was an anomaly. It looks like HDC is going to run very smooth :)

Sek, I installed UD and Throttle Tool. Very nice! And hey... there's that throttle setting clearly visible for all to see!! Love the Throttle Tool, it couldn't be easier. Guess it wasn't necessary to email everybody after all. blushing

OK, the original topic of this thread is pretty much done and over with, the quorum of 3 is still happening, it's not 9. So here's some additional rambling on about UD...

Although UD is proprietary, the fact that the throttle setting can be displayed suggests to me there there is a mechanism avaiable to the techs and programmers that allows various informations to be displayed on the graphics screen and probably on other screens too. I think that could be put to excellent use for HPF2 WUs. As we know, some HPF2 units take a very long time to converge during some parts of the computauions and that during those times the Progress Bar does not move. It has been said that WCG could make the Progress Bar indicate progress during each converge segment rather than indicate progress relative to the entire WU which would be a better indicator of whether or not the computations have stalled. Unfortunately, with that method the Progress Bar goes back to 0 at the start of each new converge computation routine.

It seems to me the solution to the problem might be to have 2 Progress Bars. One would indicate progress relative to the WU, the other would indicate progress relative to the current converge routine. The one would progress once from 0 to 100% for each WU, the other would be more active and would restart at 0 each time the converge routine restarts. If it hits 100% before the converge completes then it simply drops back to 0 and starts over. It might do that several times during longer converges.

The only thing preventing implementation of the above solution is that UD may not have the ability to display 2 Progress Bars. If Rosetta can provide stats on progress relative to the WU as well as stats on progress during each converge or progress between checkpoints then it should be possible to write a 3rd party app that would run alongside Rosetta and UD and provide 2 progress bars or maybe more. I will write that app if it's possible and give it over to the community as freeware, if somebody can point me to info on the Rosetta and/or UD interface(s), APIs or whatever. Or is all that info Top Secret?

I keep searching for that CPU throtle tool and can't find it anywhere on the site. Can somebody tell me very accurately where to look?

And another place is 'Start Here' - World Community Grid CPU Throttle Feature at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655
