Thanks, sekerob.
----------------------------------------I did what you suggested and I have two units queued. I'd like to have more, since what I am doing is temporarily choosing only HDC in my projects so I can only get cancer units next time the agent connects to the server. But I need to readd FAAH for my UD client machines, I think. So I'd like to store a bunch of cancer units and not have to play with the WCG settings. I hope that makes sense. |

Teletran, if at WCG BOINC (default) Profile, you set 3.0 days contact, you will get so much work as BOINC computes your machine can handle based on recent performance (its not a very intelligent algorithm...does learn, but ala, nothing is perfect). If you crunch away like one FAAH every 1.5 days (clock, not CPU), you'd get somewhat more than 3 days worth.
----------------------------------------Caching with UD agent is only possible by using an add-on utility not supported by WCG, but it works well. Find posts on this forum regarding UD Monitor or UD_mon. You can set at Device level for UD, what you want to process. Note that if u change the My Projects settings, it overwrites all individual UD Device settings......you have to set the individual device settings again. ciao

Thanks for the info, sekerob.
----------------------------------------I just wish there was a way to have BOINC only download one type of workunit like we can set UD clients to do. Instead it wants to run workunits from every project in the "my projects" section. |

No, BOINC respects your project choices. You just can't chose different projects for different computers, that's all.

I have BOINC on my home PC, and UD clients installed on two other pc's at different locations. Those machines cannot run HDC so I set the profile to send them FAAH. Problem is, that means I have to add that to "my projects" and my BOINC PC wants to get those units too, despite setting it's profile to only get HDC. No way to only get HDC on the BOINC machine, I assume?

Hi teletran,
You are right. BOINC does not allow choice for individual computers, but UD does. However, that still leaves a way. First you select HDC only for My Projects, then check 'If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents).' This will unfortunately stop your UD machines when they upload your current results. So go into Device Profiles and set FAAH on the device projects list for your UD device profile. You can set each UD device separately, so as long as you are willing to have all your BOINC computers running the same list of projects, you are home free. Also, remember that you can set a special BETA profile and assign it to some BOINC computers but not others. Lawrence |

lawrence,
----------------------------------------thanks so much. I was under the impression that if I selected another project in each UD profile it would automatically add that project to the "my projects" section, therefore making BOINC run them all. I think it did that before. Either I noticed that wrong in the past or this new BOINC setting you mentioned has provided a work around. Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated. As always, these forums and the support here are great ![]() |

Hi teletran,
I think that what you ran into before is that a change to My Projects overrides any previous setting for a UD device profile. So you have to set the UD device profile after My Projects. (Maybe after My Projects has downloaded to the device. I don't know the fine details since I do not use it.) |
